Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - OneEyedSquid - 15-05-2015 Anyone know the name of the jig on my profile picture?  I've seen this jig out fished yamashita and yo-zuri, but couldn't find it online.  I don't think it is a coleman jig either.  Or maybe I am wrong. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - skwidbert - 15-05-2015 Went to Hyannis harbor this morning. Failed terribly. Walked around until I found ink and when I did, I found lots of it. Some of it looked fresh. I knew something was up because I was the only soul in sight until sunrise. Guys came off the boats with buckets of scup and the few of them that walked by me to look in my bucket all said similar things along the lines of "You're kinda late" and "they've been hitting them since the first of May over here" as well as "the whole harbor was on fire" When I got in to my odorless vehicle i fastened my seatbelt, let out a sigh and thought, "must be nice" Anywho, France's fleet anyone? Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - OneEyedSquid - 15-05-2015 @skwidbert,  If it makes you feel any better, my friends got a bucket full last night at Jamestown.  They said it was skunk until it got dark.  You can see them swimming all around.  Now I am itching to get out there again this weekend.   Wondering if I should call out of work and pull an all nighter or wait for the weekend.  Squid is finally getting hot and messy.  Only thing that will make this complete is knowing the name of that Jig on my profile picture.  And the folks fishing with it didn't use it like a treble hook, the squids are latching onto it.  Now if I only know the jig name on my profile.  Lol!!! Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - greg ct - 15-05-2015 I actually found a chain of those jigs in my kit, still in their package. The chain is called a squid striker, made by sea striker.  Here is a pic of the jig (lower right):  Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - OneEyedSquid - 15-05-2015 @greg ct,  Nope.  The one in my profile picture is of the hook goes straight down, then straight out, then straight up.  Nice squid jig collection you have there though. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - CalamaroItalia - 15-05-2015 OneEyed, I believe what you have there is known as the West Coast Jig. In my opinion, they are perhaps the best performing compared to all other lures I've seen. If you do a Google search on "West Coast Squid Jig" you will get "Colman's Squid Jig Warehouse" as the first hit on the list. To my knowledge, Colman's may be one of the only places to purchase them online. Hope this helps! JR Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - skwidbert - 15-05-2015 i know a market in providence that has them! 7 bucks Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - OneEyedSquid - 15-05-2015 @Calaroltalia,  Thanks!  I guess it is worth a shot since I can't find anything else online besides the Colemen jig.  I'll get some on order and try them out.  It does look promising. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - OneEyedSquid - 15-05-2015 @Skwidbert, Where?  Not a bait shop? Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - tongvo - 15-05-2015 Quote:@Tongvo, Thanks!  Hopefully they work for me.  Was it the same ones you posted that you ordered in the past? No, I ordered the non-weighted ones.  Spend about a hundred bucks. Ended up sitting in my back up squid jig box.  Then I go Japan for better squid jigs. Below are the ones I ordered  3 years ago. [sharedmedia=gallery:images:958] Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - BillG - 15-05-2015 I have some of those jigs too. I got them last year at Sam's in Middletown. I haven't caught a squid on them (yet?), but they work well as a bottom jig in a 2-jig setup. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - OneEyedSquid - 15-05-2015 @SquiderBruce, 50 is a lot of jigs.   @tongvo, do those sink eventhough they are not weighted?  I plan on using the weighted one.  Those look similiar, but the one I want are the first picture post you had up. ÂIt will sinking fast enough and it's better without sinker. I used small hook on the bottom than I use large hook on top of that but if you fishing on fast current use 1/2oz sinker. |
