don't know if the big pollack showed up yet but the cod and

UPDATE!!
We are out today, with high hopes of those Pollock taking hold. One of our 6 pack boats(MJ) ended up banging the Pollock on Thursday. The LMAIII and the AB did OK, still not what we're looking for though. I'll report on today as soon as I know, but we won't be able to get out again until Tuesday, weather taking a turn for the worse. All charters and public boats will stay in port until Tuesday(LEAVING AT 7AM).. Once again, all trips from here on out, until March will be leaving at 7AM, due to daylight savings time.

I use 1oz sinker, jig about feet from sinker , and lazer jig. Fot up top I use shrimp jig.

Natural colors working best. Fished the other side last night right behind the parking lot. DO NOT USE LIHGT. They are swimming up to the canal lights anything else is scaring them away. Myself and squid to go were pulling them off one after another no light.

I only caught 2. But those were my first squid in the canal for 4 trips.
Some folks did up to a dozen but most folks had 2-4 for their efforts.
Nice night with quite a lot of people coming and going. I fished from 9pm to 1am.
Saw 2 monster squid swim by a few times that were the biggest Ive seen.

On Thursday night I caught 47 squids three of them longer than the bucket, and Friday night I caught over 60 this time they are shorter but fat. Anthony and have so much fun take turn to bring them up with our tiny little rod.

The larger squid in the canal are a little tough (rubbery) as compared to the
squid I have caught in the harbors. Wonder if its the different type of squid
or its their size that makes them a little tough (cooked same way). Still tasted
fine just a little more tough to chew. It is a different technique for catching
squid in the canal. I don't think the numbers were there Sat night. It still seems
like its hit or miss at the canal. Wish I lived a little closer so I could check
there more often but its a little over 2 hrs each way for me. One of these nights
I'll hit it right there. Thats probably why people are always coming and going to
check on the bite for that night. Looking at Wed to go out on party boat fishing
for cod and sea bass. Waves 2 ft or less with southerly breeze, hope that report
holds true. There is some great fishing to be had right now if you can get out.
For me I need the blue bird day, tired of getting bruised and holding on to something
all day and trying to fish. I am fortunate to be able to pick my days to go out.
I think there will be still some time for squid in the canal and maybe it will last
all winter.

That is right across the entrance to the harbor from where we were.
I actually went over that side for an hour or so and thats where I
got one of the 2 I caught. I said hi to those fishing there so
maybe you saw me? Anyway went fishing out of RI south of Block
Island and had a great day. Amongst my catch was a deep water
ocean squid that got snagged by a cod jig in 170 ft of water.
the tube was 10" but it was like 6-8 inches wide, red in color,
had the fins that spanned the whole tube, on the fins there were
fluorescent blue dots about the size of BB's and about 1" apart,
actually it a pretty looking beast, tentacles were around 12" on
the 2 long ones and 8" on the shorts. The tube meat was almost a
3/8" thick. Battered it up and fried for 20 seconds, still a little
chewy but tasted great. I think the thicker tubes like what you get
in the jumbo squid are definitely more chewy. What a beautiful day
out there, flat calm and warm enough to fish in just a shirt and
fishing was pretty good.

Nice that's the same squid they have on the west coast. With the fins spanning the length of the tube. I went down there today about 4:30 for a couple of hours. Grabbed a bunch. I think for some odd reason the fishing down there is much better with no lights. Maybe that's why you saw him pulling up so many than when you put your generator on the bite went off. Canal squid are quirky. With those nice big squid stew them for over 45 mins in tomato sauce and white wine then pull the off the heat when they get tender. I save the small ones for frying and the big ones for stewing.
