Well i guess i could just stay home with her and make sure there is no family fighting while your fishing and you could take out TILF2 with you. But on the other hand i think i would rather go out in the boat because you never know what great things i might miss out on if i am not there.

just checked the forecast for CT for the coming 10 days. There's a run of 5 days that are pushing 90 degrees. I then checked the Newport forecast and must say, the temps were quite a bit lower than I thought they would be. Temps look like they might break 70 at some point but at least it doesn't look like they'll drop below 50 for a week or so...after tomorrow that is.
Should give us a nice bump in the water temps....giggity

Was out there last night around 8:30-10:00p with a cloud of bait under my light, but no squid. Other's were leaving when I arrived, one squidder came to check if we were having any luck, obviously he wasn't either.

Hello Newport squidders. A friend showed me your forum last year and I have been getting a kick out of the posts and passion for squid fishing you all have. I went with my Dad years (over 25) ago off Newport for squid and I barely remember it. Last year I swore I would go and take my kids (5 and 7) but striper fishing takes up most of my time and I never get around to it. Last night I was at Benny's and picked up a handful of yozuri jigs and really hope to get out there with my kids. Not looking for buckets, just a handful for scup bait would be great. So....I have a few questions I hope I can get answered without anyone giving away secrets.
1. I know goat island is a key area, what about times? I know night is best, but with the kids, is early morning( 7-9am) or evening (7-9pm??) good too?
2. We have a boat too, are there areas I could try for squid during the day with the kids?
3. Do you put a weight at the bottom of the rig with the yozuri or just fish them direct?
Any help is greatly appreciated and I hope the squid show up in big numbers and you all have a great season!
