was fishing in Jamestown this past weekend and I was amazed that people was still fishing for squid and catching. all small to medium size squids..I did see some very large squids swim by.
I always thought squid would have been gone by now..Man its been a strange fishing season.

Where in Jamestown?
Fort wetherill(sp?) The place get pack quick by 6pm. they all sit there claiming their spots till the sun goes down. I just got back from there, just catching scup. Talked to a guy who said he had filled a bucket last night. He said the squid really started hitting right after the rain last night. Maybe I'll give it a shot tomorrow night.
Everyone's weapon(jig) of choice is the Coleman squid jig..Look likes those pen cap size jigs.

Caught between 50 and 150 each night last week in Newport all small to med size
UPDATE from jamestown dem fishing area... jamestown cops telling people with loud generators to turn them off because of neighbors' complaints... either you get a quiet honda generator or stick the one you have in your car in order to muffle the noise... there were probably 4 - 5 generators out tonight... personally i think it's a bunch of BS from the 2 neighbors living nearby...
mino_401 you can't blame the neighbors for complaining about the noise. How would you like if you were trying to sleep and for example you had a neighbor that ran a lawnmower after midnight?

Are you using small jigs? You gotta go small about 2 inches or less because these squids are growing jueveniles.

I find it amusing that people run these noisy smokey generators off their boats. Get some hydrolights <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Are you saying that Hydrolights are as effective as a generator & the halogen lights most people use with them?
If so, can you offer some proof? I may be interested. Thanks.

Here are our catches with the light in June off Green Hill. Since they're in feeding mode they don't float as much. I believe they work as well if not better because the light is submersed in the water rather than wasting lumens reflecting off the water. Green light is proven to attract bait. I seen quite a few boats out off Green Hill with Hydrolights. The secret is out <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':oops' />

Wow, just the ink spots all over your boat shows that you've been hammering them.
I've got to get some use out of the generator & light that I bought but a Hydro Glo Light is definitely going on my short list of toys to get, I could even take it out on my kayak : )
Thanks for posting the info.
Brad
p.s. How long is the chord that comes on them?

The chord isn't that long... roughly about 15 ft or so which IMO is long enough.
P.S. We were killing them...

I use a small green jig and i get most of them about a foot off the bottom,
IMO,its the spot that counts. Not saying the hydrolight isntt effective. just saying if ur the only one on the squid with some sort of light, youll nail them...with the correct jigs of course....
later,

good luck out there
Is there anywhere in R.I. to get those small jigs?

The spot is important... if the squid isn't there then they ain't coming. I outfish the Frances fleet so that says a lot. Out in Green Hill just about every other boat have hydro light so that says a lot. IMO I think a light attached to a charged battery > smokey generator. If the jigs aren't working then I resort to the cast net. Actually I choose cast netting over jigging any day. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

These hydrolights are catching on... I too prefer cast netting but only when the squids aren't active and become "hypnotized" by the light. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

DO NOT PUT YOUR GENERATOR IN YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While dampening the noise is a good idea, the build up of CO in your car isn't and you could die from it.
