Was at Ft adams Firday night 10pm-2am nothing..Then made a move to GI and caught 4 in 3 hours.
Here is my thoughts on where the squids went..The weekend before I seen multiple schools swim by my light. All during the week there was no sun, rainy and water temps dropped a bit because of it. That drove the squid back out to the south shores.
Which is why Francesfleet did so good this weekend. Because last weekend they didn't do good and had to cancel some trips because of it. So we need this rain to stop and bring on the SUN!
Thats just my guess. Let me your thoughts on this.

Went Friday 5/20 from 2am to 6am - Skunked out, pick up about 10 on the bridge.
Went Saturday 5/21 with the Francis Fleet on the Lady Francis and caught approx. 130+ squid between 4 guys, (two were newbies) - Huge sized squid. make make not want to go back to GI again. Awesome time, according to them, it was slow but that was the most squid I have ever caught in one sitting.
Going to take a break because as soon as I was done and home with the squidfishing trip, I was getting ready for a black sea bass trip.
I am completely fished out for the next few days.
Hope the weather turns around and this week is looking better.

Seem like the squids didn't make their route to Newport Harbor in abundance this year... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

If you're gonna make ur black sea bass trip make sure it's in Mass because Rhode Island doesn't open until July.
And the limit of 10 fish makes me not want to go.

Haven't been out yet. Newbie here. Just got jigs in mail. does useing a snap swivel make a big difference in jigging or should I not use one. Figure it would make for quick and easy changes at night. Thank for the help, and hope to see you guys down at GI reel <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> soon!!

I dunno guys, I went nuts a couple years ago and was using tiny three way swivels and it didn't stop me from catching three at a time when they were running. I stopped only because I was wasting too much time tying them on.
I have also been using about 4 inches of line off the main line to the lures, but I am thinking that it is too much and causing some rats nest tangles that results in the teaching of my daughter all my Italian swears. (Good thing her mom's side doesn't understand any).
The other thing I like to do is run lighter test line to the sinker, by a few pounds. This "Break-away"rig may lose you more sinkers, but you can get 50 for the price of a jig.
If they run like they did in 2008, I expect to fill the freezer again.
I was the hero as we had calamari every family gathering for nearly a year. Nice meaty flavorful tubes.
Hardly any small ones.
Anyone headed up from CT?
I am thinking of heading up and camping out for a couple of days if anyone is interested.
I've only an extra seat in the S-10, but welcome the company and splitting the fuel, and toll.
See you all up there soon!
Time to GET INKED!

I thought the same too, but fish like these get me motivated.

New Britain. I'm trying to convince a buddy to come along. I don't make this trip solo, unlike fluke and striper trips <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Well I can't get anyone to go this weekend, but I have a trip lined up for next weekend.
Where did everyone go? This thread is usually bumping at this time of year? Are the squids just not around? People not going b/c of gas prices?
TALK TO ME FOLKS. lol <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />
Been to GI a few times recently. Everyone seems to be catching but not more than 2-10. Usually left about 11PM. Suspect a few of those staying until 2-4AM could fill half a pail with VERY hard work.
Could be a number of things happening at once-too much rain run off, striper runs (never seen more fishing jumping after squid), and lack of warm weather. Maybe now that we have a few days of 80+ it will pick up.

I'll be there.
If I am not there it's because I'm dead. (From Kelley's Heros)
I'd come get you but daughter is riding shotgun this trip.
Out to GI last night from 6 to 10 p.m. Not a creature was stirring, except for a rat at the wall where the bridge starts. A few more days of this warm weather should prove better. (Hopefully).
My opinion, They are late this year! [quote name='flukeprodigy' timestamp='1306509123' post='22390']

The squids are not around Newport that's all... I heard news of someone having a 1000lb night somewhere in Massachusetts. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wh' />
Squid Migration pattern can be unpredictuable... We have always relied on the GI and maybe a shift in the earth somewhere <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> or maybe change in weather pattern... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> could cause a change in the migration pattern.
Look at the Humboldt squid... A creature that supposely is found in Mexica are showing up as far up as Alaska. Who knows!? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />
Anyone live up by Westport MA or Fall River?
Maybe they got lost.

Got me a picture of his twin brother but having difficulty inserting/sourcing images. But Buzzards bay was foggy today and it cleared up and the Sea bass was on fire as the Scup bites died out. Lots of scups!
