Hey guys,
We went squid fishing to Denham jetty last night and caught about 8 northern calamari.
Was lots of fun for the wife since the squid were pretty keen takers.
I hope to explore the Shark Bay area more over the next couple of days.
Cheers, Glen
Glen,
if you are still there fish the north side of the boat ramp jetty off the drop off into the hole in front of you just at dusk. It's usually a winner and if you want a Bluebone do the same with a crab leg and 5/0 owner. Have fun. Cam

Hey there. Thanks for the tip. I am back in Melbourne now unfortunately! Overall I did not do very well with the fishing in WA. But it was a honey moon so I wasn't supposed to be fishing anyway! hahaha <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> Next time I try going to Exmouth again since I know it is good up there.

Hopefully next time I'll be able to give you some more info. Exmouth aswell. I used to live there.
Here is a pic of a Denham Jetty Squid. I actually did not catch this one as I did not have a camera when I was fishing there but someone else was obliging the next day!
I also have some pics of the squid at Ocean Park Zoo which I will post soon.
Cheers, Glen
Will be heading up next Friday. Will be Eging for the full free hours I have up there after a meeting. Gonna try the Shimano Sephia AU, CI4 & range of Jap jigs... Revenge time, lost my harimitu jig there...
Best to stay until evening if you can <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Was pretty windy up at Denham.
Current record for me is a 31cm mantle length specimen.
Apparently they grow to approx 38cm...

This squid is 19cm mantle length.
Some pictures of the squid from Friday night. Was windy during the day and not a single squid

nice one! i never saw any that big when I was there in March.
There was no hookup at sunset.
After dinner, I was told by one of the resident that he caught two huge ones couple nights ago, but patience is required.
Hence I headed straight back to the jetty and it was basically deserted because the Footy game was on that night. After about one hour casting everywhere from the jetty, got the record breaking [my own record] squid and as you can see a second one was lurking behind.
But I was distracted by a visitor [whom I gave the squid to and in return, helped me snap my pictures with me in it]...by the time we settled down, the second biggish squid has left.
They were quite picky though, unlike the last time, they went straight for the egi, where as this time round they were careful. And for the rest of the night, it was just smallish baby squid about 10cm and the normal ones at 15cm - 20cm mantle length. As of that weekend, hundreds of children will be fishing for these squids shoulder to shoulder on the jetty when all of them come for a week or so for the school holidays. The next morning was disappointing too, only one hookup at dusk [approx 16-19cm mantle length] and nothing else.
Am really looking forward to the next trip now.

Thanks Mug. Hooked this with a natural colour 3.0 Egixile Keimura just after sunrise. It put up a good fight with the drag working hard to maintain the 8.lb fireline crystal line. Hooked another inquisitive one after landing the first(slightly smaller @ 28.5cm).

Hi all, been a while I last posted any squid updates...that's because I have not been eging for a wee while. Miss my trip to Monkey Mia. Anyhow just wondering if anyone has any tips or even confirmation if there is squid fishing up in Broome WA? All nice people out there, thanks in advance.
