Hi there, I'm new to the forum but I thought I might contribute squid fishing info for the Port Campbell area. As most might know the most popular place to catch squid here is the Port Campbell pier, but it quickly fills up with rods, tourists and pier jumpers. Due to this I've been searching for quieter locations full of fat, less spooky squid.

West of Cape Otway rock ledges are a bit rubbishy for fishing unless you want to catch wrasse, but they're full of reef and kelp, making them prime squid fishing territory. Many of the best rock ledges have a water depth of only 3 to 5 metres but the squid have great shelter and can only be targeted in calm or northerly winds.

2 Mile Bay which is a famous surfing location is one ideal spot. A short walk from the parking area to the west of Port Campbell, down some stairs cut into the cliff you end up on an awesome rock ledge with views across to Lochard Gorge and the 12 Apostles. Last night conditions were perfect so I decided to walk there with just one squid jig (blue and pink), I landed a 2.5kg squid on the second cast and was snagged by an even bigger specimen on the next cast. One squid was plenty for numerous meals. A kayak here would be deadly if conditions were right.

I would rank this area as one of the best areas I've fished for squid and I've been to many well known squid locations. Anyway if you're ever over here by all means try the jetty, but if conditions are good go for a walk and you'll be rewarded for the effort.
