Squidfish Forums

Hi everyone! I have been reviewing posts for about 2 years on this site for Puget Sound squidding and finally decided to register and make some postings. I am not the "Expert" here, but wish to get some discussion going from active squidders whom I know read these same posts and wonder about the same kinds of things. Squidding gear that I have been seeing ranges from rods ranging from 6 foot to 10 foot, from brand names to inexpensive road from Walmart. Lines range from normal fishing lines between 8-15 lb test to expensive "special" master squid braided lines. Lures are a big difference from what I have been seeing from across the world for squidding in the Sound. Lighting seems to be of most importance, along with getting at the right location, at the right time.



I am really surprized in that I do not see many US websites offering squid fishing items comparable to those in Japan or Austrailia, which I am starting to see have a lead in the market. Been doing some reasearch for a while now, and plan on doing some experimentation with some Austrailian lures for next season from Berkley. Any responses to this topic to get it going is appreciated. Squidding is my passion for stress managment and a lot of fun to be on top of the game! I like where your going with this and being a newer squider to the PNW I think that this will assist many other to join and leave their mark as well. Coming from California and the wonderful world of Bass Pro Shops, and White River Fishing Co. I'm a believer in you get what you pay for. My rod of choice is a 6'6" MH rod with a Bass Pro Shop Extreme Baitcast Reel. Spooled with Stren Super Knot. Just a single lure completes my package (Purchased from Cabelas or Bass Pro Shop, whatever brand they have on sale) Its more of spending time with the family and seeing my sons face as we pull something in. In regards to lures, i've had luck with cheap'os to expensives, and they all catch the same.



So with my quick two cents, hope that this helps a little and we can go in depth more when others post as well. Happy Fishing...
