Hit the late night and early morning bites at the piers down near the aquairum. Limited out. Lots of company. By the time I left there were about 25 people fishing where I was.
Got a bit crowded. But, things remained cordial. Everyone was catching some squid. Life was good.

This was the number reason why they closed access to the South side of the bldg @pier 69 reason being people fishing there in the past have been urinating on site and you could really smell it. And most of all people are drinking alcohol and leaving their trash behind. I would have to agree with the last post that if people are not cleaning up after them selves our fishing pre villages on this and any other dock are in jeopardy.

Well, the worst has happened already. Last night at Pier 70, the security guard came out and told everyone to pack up and leave... After all, that pier is for private businesses and not a public fishing pier. I guess Pier 70 is history now.
Does anyone know if Pier 86 is as good as the other spots?
@Ikasashi Pier 69 will be next if people don't clean up after themselves. I know Pier 70 has been off limits for the public for a while and I don't know why in the past month or so they let people in and out over there to fish. That's another prime fishing spot that we lost due to inconsistencies of people not cleaning up after themselves, loud noises and yes probably urinating there as well.
On another note:
Des Moines was very very HOT last night and very crowded. Squid was everywhere and fisherman/woman young and old had their fare share of the little squirters we call squid. I too had my share of the in and out what they call "RUN" before two of the MOM and POP Sea lion came in and started swooping on the school of squids. It was time for me to head home but was very happy fisherman.
got my limit at 70. it was a very big lasting a few hours. they would circle around though. a guard came through and didnt do nothing to use! got some daytime morning squid too!
Limited once again. Fished piers 59, 62, and 70. Fished from 430 to 320am. Such a good season! Next year should be good too!
How long does it take you to clean and skin 10 pounds of squid? Is there some trick that I'm unaware of? Took me like 4 hours, by the time I was done the squid was starting to stink.
No trick, it just takes a while to clean, unforetunately! But fishing is good and Komo4 wants to do a story along the Seattle waterfront!

There's no need to clean them all, unless you're eating 10 lbs. in one meal. I just put 10-20 squid in a plastic bag, squeeze out the air, seal it tight , and freeze. You can clean them after thawing when you're ready to cook. They keep good frozen for at least a year. They actually freeze better that way, as the skin protects the squid from freezer burns.
Oh sweet, thanks! Probably easier to clean after its frozen too
anyone been to edmonds lately and has it been good
you just gotta go down and try! Seattle has been hot on high tides at 3-7am
Squid is everywhere, Edmonds, Seattle, Des Moines....it just depends on when, not where. I caught 25 squid between 6-7 pm last night, but only 1 between 7-8 pm. You got to be there at the right time, or keep fishing for 10 hours to get your limit.
hes right this time of year is when! BUT sometimes where like low tide periods is a factor. I'll squid at 69 untill low tide, then think where next. Then ill go to 62/63 & aquarium and ill find them BUT its a one and twos game untill the tide comes into the 7 foot mark then ill go to my secret stash of squids! Best season in number of years! It's when not where!

I clean my squid in 2 ways, as follows:
1. Tube/ring
If you want to make ring fries (keep the round shape), cut the squid in half at mid section first, and clean the top and bottom sections separately. It's easier to pull the guts out this way, and the cartelage won't be left inside. Then cut the squid 1/2 inch wide for frying. Cut the legs just below the eyes. This section is also very good to eat.
2. Flat
If you don't care for the ring shape, just slice open the squid with a fillet knife or scissors, and pull the legs up from the body. The guts will come out in one piece and the cartelage can be removed very easily as well. Cut up the squid and it's ready to cook.
You don't need to remove the skin, as it's totally edible when cooked. There are actually 3 layers of skin. The top layer is a slimy one that comes off when you wash the squid. This needs to be removed. The second skin is the one with red/brown speckles. It's up to you to skin it or eat it. The third skin is a very thin, transparant film, that's hardly noticable on small squid, but you could feel it a bit chewy if the squid is more than 12-14 inches. That's why the chefs make criss-cross cuts on large squid to make them chewable.
Looks like fishing has been good while Ive been hunting... See you all soon
got 5 pounds last night from 7pm to 1am
Edmonds from 8 to midnight, snagged 4 small squid
limited at 69 early morning bite. pouring down rain and 25 knot winds at 6am
Went to Edmonds from sunset to 7:00, which was a total bust. I caught one right before a seal came in. I wasn't going to stick around after I saw the seal, made that mistake once before haha.
