Happy new year everyone..  with the warm night/fall. I decided to try.... well behold first squid of 2012!!

Excellent ...Maybe a sign for a good season to come!

When a good time to start squid fishing

Since the weather has been nice, I might go check out GI. I'll post if any activities are going on

just wondering if anyone has gone to gi yet?

thinking about about taking a ride down to newport tonight.will post if i see any action.

Can't wait to break the jigs and the fry-daddy out, standing by.

Water temp much warmer than usual.

Don't wait for reports.. go make em.



North of RI, there is alot of life for this time of year. I suspect things are earlier.. if not, the squid never left.



Mackerel have not left the shores north of boston. I caught a squid in January in RI while mackerel fishing... I would bet they are there, just not super aggressive.

I was there in January if that counts. =). I have not been there recently, been pursuing game a little closer to home. Will try once they stop biting.

Did anybody hear anything if the squid are in yet..... I really want some calamari

[/quote]There really were a few in January. The water is as warm as it is in late April so the spring run could be early!

thinking about going tonight. water temp in newport is 47.1 degrees wont be long
