Long time follower, first post:
Anyone know why the Hyannis squid run is so good during the day? I do not see any local RI posts regarding any day time squid catches. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on that. Thanks!
I'm heading to Newport Saturday night hope is worth the trip
Good luck, please keep us posted.
Anyone planing on fishing the FF tonight? Please give honest results as they typically over inflate the actual catch to drum up more business.
Got there at 7:30 about 100 people fishing on the bridge. Saw one caught here and there but the folks on the south side of the bridge were doing better. Caught 2 large squid one after the other at 9pm then nothing till I left at midnight. Was cold with wind but still fishable. Any day they should move in with better numbers. Water was a little dirty and all hits came near bottom.
Janz thanks for the update
Thanks Janz; hopefully the long trip will pay off for you better next time!
I'm sure it will. All the signs are there for the big run to start. Plenty of bait swimming around
the light. Just didn't see any squid up higher. There were a few boats under/by the newport bridge.
Don't know how they made out but probably better than I did. First nice day and I will be back. Need
my sea bass bait.
Went to GI last night. A whopping two. Saw no more than a dozen come out. Cant go back till next week.
May be interested that the Frances fleet first night squid trip was decent last night.
Check the reports here
http://francesfleet.com/wordpress/Â Â next trip is Wed night.
around 50 bucks and you don't have to clean the boat.
full moon is the 18th. Right on schedule.
went to GI bridge Saturday the 11th, what a big disappointment. when I arrived it seemed like it was going to be a great night, not. it looked like everything was perfect, sea and weather. as soon as the sun went down I fished under massive light that illuminated the whole dock. so with that being said I fished all night to the a dismal 5 squid, yup 5 squid. the folks next to me caught about a dozen and a half. Â the reason I'm posting this is because I believe that all the reports are false, no one is catching anything. all in all I have been out twice spending numerous hours and have only 5 squid.
Was at jamestown sat night from 8 to midnight caught 1 right away and thought it was going to be a good night and ended up with that only 1. That's fishing

Thanks for your honest report. The same to you Algreen.

Probably going back to Newport on Thursday night to try again.
Frances fleet doing next squid trip on Wednesday.
If CT is closer,
The Black Hawk out of Niantic CT is doing a squid trip if interested.Â

Thanks janz I live in ct so I'll definitely call to make reservations
Went to GI tonight from 7:30 to 11:30 pm I only got 10 squid. close to 30 people on the bridge. Too slow not worth standing out all night in the cold. Im gonna try again tomorrow morning for a hour.
Has anyone had any success on their boats squidding? Im debating either a RI or MA trip this Friday.
Did well in Hyannis last Thursday. Not sure if they are still schooled up there and biting.
Just came back from frances fleet. Doing ok, got 27. There are about 8 jumbos. They are moving closer now. Newport will get better. FF was fully booked. You have to fish elbow to elbow with your neighbors and be prepared to spend 1/3 time on untangling....
