Water temp in Newport Harbor now down to 46.9. There is a lot of bait being reported around Block Island. That’s a good sign that It won’t be long after water temp goes up again. Need to warm up the water before it’s worth putting in the time!
Some reports, from other sites, say that they are in around Hyannis.......but they're fishing from boats. Some folks report catching over 3 buckets of squid

Quote:Any one have this week water temperature thanks
You can check the temps here:   https://www.seatemperature.org/north-america/united-states/newport.htm
Has anyone tried GI or Newport yet.

Things may slow down the next several days with 15 degrees below average air temps. Water temp down to 48 degrees. Was going to Newport this week. Now will try late this week or next week. Will report when I go.
Hi retired squid....what other sites are posting info about squid fishing over by Hyannis?

Also, does anyone have info on spots to try in Buzzards Bay....I have an opportunity to fish with a guy that keeps his boat in Mattapoinset and Hyannis is too far a run.

Any body catching any yet I heard reports seem like there in?

I belong to 2 groups on facebook......Squidfish RI   and  New England Squid Squad   that is where I read about the activity around Hyannis and elsewhere on the cape.
Yesterday 5/2/2019 got no squid at Jamestown
Me and a couple friends tried for a couple hours in Stonington last night with no luck. Very little wind and a high tide with lots of bait fish and one small schooly doing a fly by but no squid.

Went to jamestown last night from 8-1130 caught 2 dozen. Nice to get line wet good start to the spring run
Last night 5/4/19 there are tons of people showing up Newport for squid fishing. Unfortunately the squid didnt show up. some guys got a handful of herrings but no squid. I got none and most of peoples buckets are shinny clean. Looking for next week.
Thanks for the report.  Was going to make the 2hr trip tonight but seeing the water temp drop

to 46 and your report I will wait a few more days.  Its that time when they will show up any day/night

now.

fwiw, the Frances fleet is going to start running their squid trips this friday night.  Well, if enough people show up anyway.  Wink

Today is their first fluke trip.  Next full moon is the 18th.  It will be game on by then methinks.

They are hot and heavy in mass, but that is a 60nm run for me and my boat is in pieces right now.

Friday night is not going to be nice out there.  Watching the temp going up guess either tonight or

Thurs night i'll take the trip tp Goat island and hopefully catch a few.

Good Luck JANZ! My buddy and I can't make it till next week. Let us hear how you make out...
Its going to be Thursday night I'll make the trip and post results.

Hmm, the frances fleet report from yesterday said they found good "piles" of squid and mackeral over by the north rips at block, but the water was colder.

Might be a good place to try if nothing is in closer to shore.  My boat is still dock bound.  Hopefully it will be back together for next week.
