G'day gents,

I have ordered some 15lb braid for my main line for my new egi rod and I'm wondering what strength fluorocarbon leader I should use with it.

The reason why I'm using 15lb is so I don't loose jigs because I hate doing that.

What do you think?

Cheers

Hi mate I use 15lb braid as my main line and 10lb flurocarbon leader
Ok thanks I'm thinking I'll go the 12lb just in case I need that little bit more.

How much do you put on?

Thanks
I use 2 rod lengths or 1.5 mtr for leader . Just in case I get a decent squid on I can lift it via the leader and not put strain on the leader knot
Ok thanks for that. I live south of Sydney a bit and there has been no squid around in the Illawarra for about 3 weeks now I have been to harbours rock ledges and in jervis Bay where I have caught squid before and there is just none.
ive been trying this new GTR nanodax stuff and its beautiful to tie to braid or nearly all fishing knots, its so supple yet pretty strong stuff but it does mark the line easy with abrasions but wont snap that easy. the squid dont seem to see it, nor the trout or jewfish.

ive used the pink egi sunline fluro leader, and works fine on squid, but the trout can see it. (only the pink one, switched to same brand in clear and trout dont see it. dont ask me y?? had a arguement with the guy at the tackle store he claims all flurocarbon leader cant be seen by fish. i know what i saw for 8hrs straight. fish comes up see the leader swims away. repeat 8hrs! changed to clear what do u know caught it!) ive used the pink on other fish salmon, flathead, jewfish dont really have a issue.

also the the berkley vanish is very good bang for buck, its cheap n nasty but works very well. $25 from big w / bcf for 250yrds bargin i say!

Hey guys I just got me some Sunline-V hard 20lb and i'm wondering what length should I use as leader and what knot would work best (one that won't wear out the rings)?

20lb line is pretty heavy for squid,,,

but i use a bimini twist for the braid http://www.proknot.com/html/bimini_twist.html

then i use a yucatan knot to tie leader to braid  http://fishingdestinguide.com/KNOTS.html

but u have to make sure you lube this knot very well before you pull it all together

both knots if tyed n trimmed correctly pass through the guides all the time with no trouble.

as for length , i only use 80cm to metre of leader, thats it, but i fish .8 braid, 20lb might be to thick and they might see it, so u might have to go longer in the leader... see how you go.
