Anthony, I caught the sea bass with a piece of the squid from Friday night
Â
So... Saturday night - I ended up with 9... nothing huge... Fished from 8:30 till about midnight... caught most the first couple of hours... Used my light... but the squid were not at the surface... at least we couldn't see them on the surface...
Â
I met sodabiscuit (?) and his brother....
Nice to hear you guys were successful. I'm still not totally convinced on the LEDs yet. I think they attract squid but they don't seem to drive them to the surface the way halogens or coleman propane does. Hope they stay around for a few weeks longer. It seems to be dead everywhere else.
Went to Ptown caught 4 squids and on the way back, stop by the canal and caught 20 squid in a couple of hours
Nice where were you on the canal?
Near the power plant at the end of ed moffitt dr.
Anybody heading to the canal tomorrow night? I'm gonna try to get there... Also, is there an address I can punch in the GPS??
Gunslinger, it's at the end of Freezer Rd in Sandwich. I'm gonna try to make it there sometime this weekend - but not sure how that'll work out yet... Anyone gone the last few days?
I'm heading down fri night. Grabbed a lot on Thursday night after I read hadbros report. Hopefully the moon won't wreck the night.
@gunslinger park in the large loop lot. We fish at the purple pin.
i'm gonna try to go tonight... anthony, what time are you getting there?
Early prob shoot for around 8.
Gonna try to leave my house by nine...should be dipping a jig by eleven... Will be bringing the gren
Anything else catchable there??

Wish I could make it. Last time there were lots of sea bass there.
Fish for them like you would flounder, on the bottom and they like rocks.
Squid or clam for bait but they will hit a small metal jig like a crippled
herring.
Well this should be a decisive test for the full moon theory. It's huge tonight. There has been excellent squid fishing for the past month except for the last full moon.... If we get skunked tonight it's no coincidence.
Well... looks not good for me... was hoping i could go... but turns out the wife had other plans...
Â
Let us know how your theory about the full moon holds...Â
Well didn't get skunked but on grabbed 2. The full moon defiantly throws everything off. Well there's Alway next weekend. Don't think I'm going to bother going on full moons anymore unless it's peak season.
Well at least I don't feel as bad about not being able to go now...
The full moon theory kinda makes sense though...
What if its full moon but doesn't rise until late or if
it sets early. Is it actually the moon light or the moon itself?
How about really overcast or raining would the moon still affect
squid then? I agree that on a clear night and fullish moon that
the squid fishing was usually poor. The canal is really different
than the other areas I fish. I'm even wondering if its a different
type of squid than the ones I'm used to in the harbors.
I have caught 2 types in the canal. The ones early in the year are still hanging around and are a tad bit on the smaller side. The huge ones that are more abundant now seem to have a white spot on their back while swimming. These larger squid also have a teeth ring on their suction cups while the ones that start earlier in the year do not.
They are both very closely related if not the same species. While the western squid have fins that span the length of the tube. Maybe someone else knows for sure. Full moon has sucked for me no matter the weather.
