Hey guys,
Im new around here!have read quite a few of the forums from this site and have found it very interesting! I am from New Zealand where we do a lot of soft plastics fishing for snapper! so with little access to a boat to go fishing in i decided that squid fishing would be a great sport to take up as it has some similar fundamentals to soft plastics fishing. Right so ive bought a bit of gear from what ive read on here and have tried 4 or 5 times in different spots around Perth but have yet to catch the illusive squid ive been searching for! have been using a mixture of jigs including Dart drive 3.0's in orange harimitsu sumizoku pink 2.5 am using a 8lb fluro carbon leader. I would love for someone to show me how its done or show me a decent spot to catch them at this time of the year! im really keen to learn and if any one needs a squidding buddy im a starter!
Look forward to hearing back
Jamie
Hi Jamie,
I can't offer a great deal of advice, as I am not an expert by any means. The two places I have had success from shore have been the Ammo Jetty and Hillaries Marina. Both of these have been at sunrise and sunset.
In the boat I have had a lot more success, but unfortunately I only get to go out a few times a year as it is on borrowed boats. Even then all of my success is the few hours before and after sunrise and sunset.
Good luck.
Hi guys

But now not much around any tips for a newbie

Hi guys,
I was wondering if you knew any places where there will be heaps of squid comming within a 60Km radius of Mosman Park.
Also what are the best squidding conditions.
I will probably be heading down somewhere for one or two hours on the long weekend coming up so if you answer this please keep that in mind that cause I don't want to head down somewhere and find that all the squid are gone.
I don't have a boat either
so please only recommend jetties.
Thanks BJsquid

OK Newbies, right now North Mole in Freo is fishing well for big squid and Cuttlefish. Freshwater Bay and Claremont Jetty have reasonable numbers of SQUITLA but they have been shy and require a smaller size of jig. Yamashita naory rangehunter 1.5.1.8 or 2.2. in PFN colour has been absolutely outfishing others 2 to 1 in the last couple of nights but as squid go that may change tonight. The northern marina are stocked with big Cuttlefish and require a decent red pearl belly Clicks or Evergreen in 2.5 to 3 size worked close to the rocks. The best fishing was the lead up to the full moon but I still got 4 in an hour last night. Good luck.
p.s you will find a good selection of Jigs and accessories at Bluewater Melville 7 days a week.
i went squidding last inght on claremont jetty-no luck, and also tried the keane st jetty-no luck.......
there was a little wind

Try south mole or north mole. There are plenty there. River squid can be hard if you aren't very experienced.
it's been so calm recently, i want to go out and give squidding a try again
Guys, any report or update from the moles or northern marina?
Hey,
I have just moved to Perth from Hong Kong for Uni...have hit Woodman's Point a couple of times but only got a couple...
Any advice?
I realise it's not really season but a bad days fishing beats a good day working right?
Does anyone know where about Woodman;s point i should be squid fishing?? i see alot of jetty >_<;
boys at work keep talking about their fishing stories, about fish they never catch, one boy even caught himself through the lip....
i decided i need a new hobby...egi-ing...squidding...great...how easy...no fishy baits or oily and smelly hands,
went to blue water tackle in myaree....was amazed at the squid jiggs, so many brands, colours, types to choose from...so confusing
walk out with 2x yo- zuro 3.5, egi-o q live 2.5, 2x mako pro shrimp, 2x evergreen 2.5....a bit overboard i know!!!!
and a berkey egi master em762lm. and shimano reel exage 2500...overboard on trying to catch those little critters..
first outing. going to try this weekend at the moles with my new little out fit.. .so so happy..
learner to egi master in no time.....argghhhh what about technique....utube tonight i think....
Not much action around Perth I see.
I recently moved from Bunbury and the good squidding activity around Busselton to Pinjarra with the nearest salt water being Mandurah.
Has anyone done any squidding around here? How did you go?
I am keen to have a go if anyone would like a buddy, your boat or mine, or both.
Cheers Neil
Hi all
We went out in the boat doing some product testing on Friday.
We got our bag in 2 hours but mainly small squid.
We had most of our luck in 5m of water off the new Port Coogee deveopment.
I have also been having some luck on bigger squid off the rocks at the South Mole, Fremantle.
Cheers

Hi all, new here but not new to egi-ing, All my fishing is from boats, mostly around Garden Island and the waters around Safety Bay.
I have noted that a lot of people have been asking about jig colours, now please note that this is from a boat but should be the same from shore??
On bright sunny days white UV 2.5 or 3 has worked the best for me followed by pink.
On cloudy overcast days the greens with the dark red underside has worked well.
As I fish from a boat I use 2 rods, 1 in the hand and 1 in the holder, on a bright day I will have a white UV on 1 and a pink on the other, this helps me find the colour that works for that day... Bright colours on a bright day, dark when its overcast works for me.
Anyway, just wanted to say HI, about to hook the boat up an see if I can get some squid for lunch
Tight lines everyone!
Pete
went down for a couple of hours inside mindarie marina. No luck. First time I have tried Mindarie so I dont really know if I was in the right area (inside on boardwalk to the left of boat ramp). Tried last night at Hillarys but nothing was around either. Anyone having any luck landbased NOR???
HI all my names Frank and ive been hooked on squid fishing for two days hahahaha. Im from Perth but have just returned from a Aussie day weekend in Busselton. The previous week i purchased my three year old her first rod, and promised to try it out on the Busso jetty.
Now im an amateur, really. I have a few rods and a bunch of gear (the type you get in cheap tackle boxes), so its a bit of hit and miss for me as i learn. When we got to the jetty early sunday morning i look into the water and the first thing i see is a massive squid just swiming by. So i dive into my tackle box and dig out a cheap jig (Surecatch 2.5) hook it up and drop her in, and nothing..........waiting.........waiting........you know what i mean.
Just as were about to give up, yank i strike gold and pull up my first squid. As i do my daughter stacks it big time on the train tracks and falls on her back. Needless to say i drop my rod on the deck to grab my screaming girl and loose the squid. So now im hooked big time. I even booked the same accomodation for easter so i can go back to the busso jetty for revenge.
I found this forum on the drive back from busso and am keen to find some good squid sites in the northern area. Ive read Hillarys and Mindarie are a bit hit and miss but ill give them a go this weekend. If anyone can lend a newbie some advice that would be great.
Cheers all
Frank
That jetty is as good a spot as any!!! I loved it. Would be great to go back to WA sometime.
