Hey people

I was wondering if anyone had seen a tv documentry a few years ago on the ABC it was purely about squid and from what was shown squid would have to be the smartest creature in the ocean

It is the only fish that can change to the color of its surrondings can will do so at the slightest treat of attack.

In this doco they had squid in tanks ,when the guy who lead the study put his hand in the tank the squid would come up to the surface and play with it

I was gobsmacked I couldnt beleive what I heard or saw and gave me a whole different understanding on fishing for them

They also showed what is called !Wait for it! THE VAMPIRE SQUID FROM HELL

This squid was an electric red color and had webbing between its tenticles

this made them form like one big umbrella and it moved with the aid of its webbing not like normal squid

These guys also went down in a diving chamber to film what was to be thousands of squid on the ocean floor

A male squid can impregnate a female squid only to have another male come along and suck out his sperm and replace it with his own ( lucky we,re not squid yeck) I did tape this program but it seems to have been taped over

I am trying to locate the producers as it a must watch for all serious squidders

cheers people

Dear Glen,

Thank you for your email, I apologise for the delay in our response.

I have searched the ABC databases and the Internet and can only find the

following links to stories about squids on Catalyst and Dimensions.

Unfortunately, without the title it is very difficult to locate the documentary.

If you do recall the name of the documentary please contact the ABC.

Sorry I could not be of more assistance.

Regards,

ABC Audience & Consumer Affairs
