Trying to build the courage for another trip to Flinders
Any reports?
My last trip here (late May) was dismal without any squid whatsoever being spotted during 8 hours on a wet and windy pier!
I think I am just about ready for some more abuse!

Hey snapperman
If the squid are about in PPB then they will be around at flinders
BTW who's been abusing you????
Went for a fish on Friday night got there at about 8:30 pm and fished to 10:30pm did not get any squid. There was one more guy out there to and he had no luck. So I ended up go to Portsea pier for a bit
This the latest report from cranbourne tackle -
Quote:FLINDERS:
We have had a few reports coming in from the Flinders area involving big calamari. Both the pier and boat anglers in this area have done well as you would expect at this time of year. This should only get better over the next four weeks.
Hi all
Went out fishing for some squid last night got there at 6pm. I did not catch any squid but I did catch a big diver <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> . He got tangled in two of my lines so at that stage I had enough of it and went home at 11pm
p.s do the people have better luck with baited jigs or lures ??
from al
hi Al
On the subject of bait or lures it always pays to have both in the water but from my limited expirience at Flinders I found that baited jigs where better by far but that can change in an instant with squid, they might go for bait one night and lures the next.
I have found Flinders to be a very unpredictable place to fish it might be hot one day and stone cold the next as far as squidding goes and I have found the Bellarine Penninsula more reliable and consistant as far as peir fishing goes for squid.Although both are as good as each other if you have a boat
On the subject of the diver you should have gaffed him and filletted him on the peir LOL <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Were a long the Bellarine Peninsula do u go ??
The diver I tag him and let him go so u may have mean more diver fish <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Hi Al
I dont know how St Leonards is going but should have a report in before the weekend
Their is another peir at Queenscliff but I dont know how you would go on at Sunday as the place will be packed.
I favor fishing at night during the week normaly around or after middnight on a rising tide but I try to go as late as I can so the peir empties out a bit and this is when I do well I normaly fish around the last light on the peir which has a landing if you fish from the steps of that landing you should do ok
A must for fishing this peir is a 5 to 20 knot s/sw wind, there should always be some wind blowing in you face as you look out the heads to be successful
Pink Jigs and baited lures are my personal favorite for this area with baited jigs a must during spawning season
Thanks supersquid for the info on Queenscliff.
Ill probably go down there this Sunday night if the weather is ok
Thanks from Alex

calamarieater
well done on the 7 squid. Were you using silver whiting and anchored 600 mtrs out from the jetty?? Do you think the squid will be there this weekend arfter all this rain and wind? I am thinking of heading down there on sunday. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
Hey guys,
I went to Flinders this arvo. It was fairly quiet with not many squid caught....However I got lucky!!! I managed to catch a nice squid weighing in at 1.6 kg <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> Got a few smallish leatherjackets also.
I caught the squid with a pink jig suspended under a float. Who needs to cast! lol
Cheers, Glen
G'day Glen
Nice squid mate good on you
Sunday was a beautiful day Im surprised it was quiet like you described
I havent got out yet grrrrrrrrrrr Im hangin
Wally
hi wally, i was surprised how few squid were caught....oh well...flinders has always been hit and miss for me <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> there are tonnes of tiny leatherjackets to nibble the baits in 5 seconds flat! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
fished flinders pier in the torrential downpour on saturday arvo! got 8 squid all around 5pm tide change. thought i would go back on sunday in the boat and bag out, the calamari had other ideas! fished for 5 hours 1pm till 6pm. got 2 squid all day, 2kg each. should have stayed a bit longer for the tide to turn more but had to go home.
Tight Lines all the best
Sensational squid Glen, congratulations!
Very nice leatherjacket pics as well - the first one is a bridled leatherjacket (which only grows to 14cm!!), and the second one is a mosaic leatherjacket - they grow to 60cm and are very pretty underwater.
hi jazman, good to have our fish identification expert back!
been fishing lately?
cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
