Hi guys
Fished Queenscliff 8/3/04
Perfect conditions s/sw wind of 10 to 15 knots and very clear water AND two very very hungry seals. It was really fustrating to watch squid head for the jigs and then get stolen by the seals lol. only managed one squid so I threw him on the seals dinner plate and said you might as well have this one too.
A lady next to me caught a beauty of a cuttlefish, she tried to pick it up to put in her bucket and the little bugger wrapped himself around her hand getting ready to sink the teeth in , she started screaming and a guy next to her managed to wrench it off, lillte bugger had a tight grip.
The rain pelted down around 2am so the Supersquid called HASTA LA VISTA
There is squid about if you can beat the seals to them that is
Yibbida yibbida
Thats not all folks

thats bloody selfish people like that deserve to be eaten by those giant squid <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
everytime time i go fishing i mostly come home empty handed not because i dont catch fish but cos i'm not a real big fan of eating fish and neither is most of my family. its the fun side of fishing ie catching some loosing some hooking into em missing that bite that you should have gotten etc..
pat.

Fisheries officers DO take action if you supply them with enough information
I remember contacting fisheries about over fishing at Queenscliff peir and they conducted a series of inspections over a week which resulted in over 21 people being busted for over fishing.

hey guys
Fished Queenscliff peir two night this week (wed&thurs) and the situation down thier isnt much chop
The first night was squidless and the second was fustrating with lots of squid and a feww cuttlefish in the water but no bites managed three small to med squid all night. There were also squid present in the boat harbour at Queenscliff but again they were very shy on the bite. However on angler did entice some interest in the squid using a grey and bronze coloured fresh water lure ( I dunno go figure )
Every time he put this lure in front of the squid they attacked it with vigour but failed to hook up, I at this stage could not believe my eyes as I had tried every lure and jig known to man but they would just swim away, Along come this guy with a trout lure and they were chasing it like their was no tomorrow, if he managed to hook up he would have cleaned up
Just goes to show you how much colour can make a difference when squid fishing
Hope to go again next week so stay tuned

Supersquid - laughed at your 8/3 report - seals stealing the squid as they go to take your jags. HA HA HA HA!!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

hi Mr Willy
Not only do they steal the squid going for your lure but they also rip them off the jig
A few guys at Queenscliff have had poles busted in half when a seal has taken a squid and taken the jig as well one guy lost three poles in one night so it pays to be vigilant
It was suggested by an ingenious soul that an inflatable rubber shark be put in the water to scare the seals off, hmmm not a bad idea
