Some good squid reports coming in this week from the lower reaches of Port Phillip Bay. Queenscliff through to Safety Beach are all worth a look. Customer Chris Villani landed a bag of calamari this week. His best jig was a Hyabusa.

Gday people

Well looks like season 2007 has gotten off to a flying start with good reports comming in from both landbased and boat fishos in the Queenscliff area and most of PPB from the reports Ive recieved its not too hard to bag a few of any of the peirs at the moment

The best night this week to fish Queenscliff peir by what is my ideal conditions is Tuesday or Wednesday morning/ night when winds are expected to turn SW/W and tides around midnight.

Will lodge a report when I survey the situation first hand I will be doing the rounds of St Leonards Queenscliff Point Lonsdale and Portalington and hoping to see some action

SS
well its been very quiet around this area as far as landbased squidding goes

I fished Queenscliff last Tuesday and again last night for zilch and there where little signs of recent activity there where approx a dozen anglers all who went home empty handed, winds were very strong on Tuesday making fishing a bit uncomfortable for both angler and his prey

The bight was said to of been extremely busy on Saturday with snapper fisherman seeking a haul of squid for bait but of all the boats there very few were succesful

St.leonards was also quiet with no signs of recent activety however the snapper boys are back on the job down there

Hope we shall see some action soon as the weather warms

Just wondering too has anyone done any good landbased for gars anywhere?

I hit Queenscliff in the wind and cold last weekend (Sat 13th) from 9pm-2am.

6 of us fishing in my group and only 1 banjo shark. I chased squid all night, along with about 8 others along the pier and I only saw 3 squid taken in all that time. 2 quite large ones near the jetty past the shed and one tiny one just before the shed.

Either way, we enjoyed the long drive and something different to do. Seems like I've made fishoes out of most of my friends now!

Despite all the happy reports of catches around the bay, everybody is saying this is the worst year in memory. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />
Gave the pier at queenscliff a go....weather cold but wind from the north. Lots of squid inks on the pier....Tried for 1 hr overnight and then in the morning. No good. Hardly anyone around. May try again soon.
Did you go for any treva's near the habour / cut?

Been getting lot's of small squid at Mornington pier.

Looking to try the trev's on sp this weekend at Queenscliff.

Have not been that way for a while.

Dave.
nope.. there was some guys fishing for mullet and gars.

no luck for them too....
Ahoy there mateys.

Any word if the big squid are firin' off Queenscliff yet?
any squid in queenscliff this time ???

need a change of place, getting bored of mornington.

squid here same size as mornington right ?
went to queenscliff friday night !!! stayed 6pm-6am...first time here, started at the end of the pier and caught one little baby squid, then relised that the action is b4 the shelter, went there and caught straight away. that time was midnight. we got 5 in an hour. after 1am-6am, nothing was caught. i gotta say squid at queenscliff are much bigger than mornington. also i like this pier, its big roomy and not too crowded. definitely go again, not bad drive from melbourne too...

does using those floating bait rigs work here ? the one where u pin a live pilchard to the spikey fingy like alot of people use in portsea... do u get monster squids at queenscliff ???
it is a good spot...watch out for the seals though.

real baits are very effective.

Cheers

Ned.
