Hi...

I would appreciate any advice for some squidding spots in Port Hacking, or Botany Bay at the Georges river end.

Does anyone know some lit up spots?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks.

You might of seen my reply, as its from another questions a while back but still is relevant here.

I started fishing in the bay (for squid) after seeing someone do it down the coast and got into squidfish.net and asked a heap of questions to the glen and the guys and have had some good days and terrible ones but from what I can work out so far that in the far end of the beach (Yarra Bay) directly across from the sailing club where the container wall meets the beach, on the rising tide I have hooked up some big buggers but in saying that I have'nt had a bite for a few weeks now, but when they are on you can see them from the top where the cars park.

I'm not sure if squid fishing gets this technical or just coincidence, but the days I catch them is when the old men have been occy fishing and are tenderising the occys on the rocks for hours smashing them with sticks over again and all the ink and juice running back into the bay.

This may not be relevant, but last week I took my little boy up there and we found a squid washed up on the rocks and it was enourmous. I'm guesing it was just died of old age but it scared the Buzz Lightyear out of my little boy, although once he realised it was actually dead he was all over the the thing.

Forgot to mention, I've had luck with the big orange jig, or the pilchard on gangs with the float.

Cheers

Hi Ben,

This is my first day on this site and it looks good with good info given so for the B/Bay end of G/river you must mean Sans Souci.Try under C/Cook on the Taren Pt side on a high tide and at night for good squid but only live bait size (5inch or so,also try pink or orange there and with P/Hacking use green or blue they seem to work well. The best place is Tonkin Pk on a run up tide not low and just around later arvo with a 2.5 jig.

Best of luck

hello all,

been a while between posts i know.. however the squiding is now hotting up..

reports are mid october tru to mid november.. port hacking was a hit and miss affair, if they were there they were good bait size arrow squid, last of november up to present time if you fish the run up tide at gymea baths lilli pilli baths burraneer bay etc, there are squid about and the darker jig colours are the go , such as browns deep blues and dark purples, in yozuri and hayabusa, with the yamashita jigs the naturals range are dynamite, slimey, yakka, pilchard, prawn and mullet are sensational jigs the 2.5 size is definetely the one to go for.

Botany bay (la perouse) was fantastic in the winter with good catches of the larger calamari around the 1- 1.3kg mark, now that the waters haved warmed up the smaller calamari have come out to play, never mind they are always in good numbers, yozuri 2.5 -3.0 in glow belly with orange/black back and same in pink during the last of the daylight and blue/black, purple/black and all black the better option once the sun is totally gone.

till next report,,

keep on squiding.
