I picked up another 7 squid and a dozen flatties off Mordialloc yesterday, brown shrimphunters in 2.5 and 3.0 for the squid, and pieces of squid for the flathead. Gee it was windy though, I had to employ a brick on a rope to slow the drift of the boat down enough to make it fishable.
I fished off Mordialloc in a boat in search of a gummy last night, only caught small flathead, but had a squid jig out and managed 4 small calamari and lost another 3 because I forgot my landing net <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />
I also had to cut my trip short because the fog started to come in, and I didn't want to get lost <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

I went out in the rowboat off Mordialloc on Sunday afternoon, it was gorgeous and flat, and the fish were cooperating. I managed 12 30cm+ flathead on soft plastic minnows, and 9 medium squid. The brown 3.0 shrimphunter outfished the green yamashita 2.0 by 7 squid to 2
hey guys,
i have never squidded at mordy but have fished many times without success. i have also hired out one of the little putt-putt boats a few times with a bit more luck. the best day i had at mordy was with a friend and his dad, there were 3 of us and we caught 43 fish between us <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> ... only 4 keepers though  2 pinkys and 2 flathead.
thats all for now,
pj
hey guys, me again...
there are lots of boats hired form mordy and you always catch a fish or 2. i'd just love to hear your stories and experiences. i have been quite a few times and gone with allnut boat hire, (the little yellow boats with ladies names) and have had some good trips. so yeah, if you could take the time and write something here, i.e. what fish are on at the moment, best times, stuff like that it would great,
thanks

thanks,
pj
Hi guys,
I registered for this forum yesterday and i though it was a wonderful forum for all fishing interested people around victoria. I have been to Mordialloc pier several times aiming for snappers and squid. So far havent caught any squid yet with any success so thats a shame. How ever, i have caught 2 snappers in 2 occations which i though it was pretty good. Any way thank you Glen for activating the account for me. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

yes i saw a person who caught 1 squid last 2 weeks ago. hahaha. but i though it wasnt the season yet. Any way its really hot today and im gonna try to go and fish for snappers. At the same time if there is nothing being caught, i will just switch over to squid jigs and hope for 1.. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

joe...
sunday 23 sept, around 1-2am
started with a pizza in the carpark and put the handreel and jig in the pocket of my ski jacket. it wasnt absurdly cold, but i'm still fighting off the flu and wanted to be really comfortable.
walked 2/3 the length to the lower platforms. 2 guys on each side, little to show for their time. soon enough 3 of them left and i was dropping in a jig 'just in case' <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
i'd nearly had enough in the dark still water when i looked out under the light halfway down the pier. i saw a few blue gleams from the eyes and picked up 3 medium/small in just a few minutes.
the last of the fishos came past and saw them on the pier with a shock. he could only report a small plate of garfish, so he pulled his jig out and we tried to tempt the small group we could see. not much luck for half hour, so he left.
I'm glad i stayed, i pulled 5 more almost medium sized but very shy squid on a 2.5 pink at that light half way up the pier (other nearby lights were out)
home to clean them all by 3am. enjoyed the smaller ones while relaxing in front of the tv.
put the rest on for a late dinner with my parents sunday night. a little salt, a little wholemeal flour and some lemon.
has anyone fished here recently? I've never been - is it safe to eat fish from there, a few people have wrinkled their noses about fish at Mordi pier they seem a little wary.
i do recall there being higher than normal levels of bacteria/contamination etc in the mordi creek so i would be a little wary.
but then again, if the fish (or squid) just pass through the area and don't spend any great amount of time in the creek, then i guess the risk of contamination is reduced a fair bit <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Thanks glen, I'll keep that in mind. I might give it a go this week. I went to mornington pier a couple of times but I'll write about that in the thread. Cheers.
Hi im pretty new to Vic. Im only 15 mins from Mordialloc. Anyone getting many squid from the pier?
hi indo, i haven't heard any reports lately. if you get down there, see if there are any fresh ink stains on the pier, as that might give you a hint of the recent catches. happy squidding,
cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Thanks Glen,
Rocked up 4am this morning...several large ones coming thru. No luck on my lure though. Maybe flesh jig is the go?
Few guys out with those massive 10ft rods catching herring and gar i think.
So a float rig with a pilly?
Couldnt even get a bite from the fishies...
There till 7am
Dunno disappointing.....<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
for garfish you need a very small hook. i use size 14 dry fly hooks!!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
How is Mordi Pier going squid wise recently? Going to throw a couple of jigs around this weekend for the first time. Any tips...
Cheers Matt
They were catching squid at Mornington not too long ago so I thing Mordi should also have some squid about <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Cheers, Glen
Fished Mordialloc last night between 7:30pm to 10pm. Flicking a soft plastic at the mouth as there were pike around under the jetty walk way. No luck, so i decided to squid. It was low tide <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
But i managed 2 medium squid to 23-25cm hood and a decent travally to 30cm. Squid on a yamashita pink 1.5g and travally on a gulp sandworm 6"
Shame its raining today.
