when i was fishing the other day a guy had a glow light near his little bait fish and the squid where going for it.

i straped a glow light to my jig and caught another 3 squid

i have been testing this method alot when the squid are shy.

so far mainly good results

i know have seen jigs somewhere that have a light "inside" the jig. that way you do not have to worry about strapping the lights on and you won't lose any glo lights.



if only i could remember where i saw them them! bugger.

It has holes in the top where glow sticks can be put (4mm or 6mm)

This float can also be filled with water for extra casting distance , the bottom of the float is glittery and it has a sonic vibration.

I purchased it from Big W for six bucks. A bit dearer than a regular floater I know but if it is good it will be worth it. Will let every one know how it goes as I have not used it yet.

If any one else has used one let me know of it's sucess or failure

hey guys well i was recently at phillip island for the xmas/new years break and did some squidding.



i had a few glowsticks that were about 10cm long if that. maybe 7-8cm. i had a red one and two green ones.

i used a size 3.5 jig orange in colour with the red glowstick and had no luck.



i used the green ones and had two squid approach the jig put hesitate to attack. could it be that were scared of the bright glow? or they were just checking it out? after all the talk of glow spray and glow in the dark luminos jigs i thought i'd be on the money for sure. next time i try use them ill put some fish oil on it and maybe that'll attrach em?



i attach the jig using supaglue and am gonna try cut a slot into the jig to make it look more real?



has anyone else ever used glowsticks whilst squidding? and what were there experiences

i have tried squidding with glowsticks attached just in front of the jig, on the fishline and have caught squid, but have not noticed any better catch rate, than a luminous squid jig on it's own.



i happened to use a blue glow stick on one night, and a pink on another night,

the blue colour glow stick got more squid.

but my brother got the same amount of squid by using a luminous squid jig that night.

he had to shine the torch on it every 10-20 minutes though, so it glows.





i will experiment with baited jigs and a glow stick, and see if i do any better, and i will let you know.

I have also used a small green glow stick ahead of the jig (fixed on the line) while squiding off piers at night, but didn't catch more using this method. I spoke to a guy one night who swore by red glow sticks....but I guess that contradicts your experience. I also saw a guy one night with a red flashing light ahead of his jig, which was battery operated. It gave out heaps of light, and was very visible from the pier....but I caught 2 squid while he caught none.



I honestly believe that choice of jig makes a far greater difference in the size of your bag. A quality jig with a good action will outfish a crappy jig every time, regardless of whether you have lights attached or not. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />



Also, your fish oil idea is a winner...one night I was fishing for gars and squid off a pier. Anyway the gars were all that were biting, so I cut the squid jig off and replaced it with a float, and threw the squid jig in the fish bucket. By the end of the session the jig was buried under the gars, and had taken on a very fishy aroma. That jig was the only one that caught squid the next time I went out.

the glow sticks i buy, come with these "tube connectors" so you can connect two glow sticks together.

i just pass this tube through the fishline and then insert the glow stick, just in front of the jig.



you can cut a small piece of straw and use that in its place, or you could get some heat shrink tube from electronic stores. cut it in small pieces pass it through your fishline, insert the glow stick and then shrink the tube with a lighter.

<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fishing.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rod:' /> hi jazz i fish the far west coast of sa and use several different types of jigs that have an in built red flashing led . these jigs are soft silicon compound in various colours . on bright moon or around lights i use a dark almost black one as squid coming in from the dark or off the bottom see dark shape flashing softly fire up on it . if fishing further ot i use a luminesant green with red led . have had great success with them . during daylight use all other colours with or without lights . squid over there grow to huge sizes up to almost half a metre mantles .jigs arent cheap but are worth it . mine came from a spoton tackle outlet in adelaide good luck fingers

I've seen a bloke use the glow sticks on top of his jig and he caught two and i got my bag limit so i don't really think that its going to make you catch more he was cast retrieving and had it set on his squid poles and it didn't really prove it self.
