I haven't been to Pt Leo in ages. Used to go bodyboarding there <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />
Went to Point Leo before dawn, realised i had i no idea where to fish. Off to Flinders Pier.

Got down there around 6:30am two other blokes fishing with about 9 rods between them. I managed one small squid on my new gold and black Harimitsu #3 but i lost it trying to lift it up. got snagged about 8 times without losing any jigs.

Decided to head off to Blairgowie around 7:30, bagged 4 squid there, left at tenish. Headed off to the Pillers at Mount Martha, where all i got was short of breath from rock climbing.

Should of just gone to Blairgowie in the first place, i would have bagged out before 9 i reckon.

Might head down for a crack on dusk at Beauy
thanks for the report <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />
so you worked hard for it?

how did you go at your other spots?

word on the street is that they are catching large squid and sandringham break wall? i dont know where it is......
hello all.

Nice,

i have heared brighton is the go for gars at night.....

have you been down to beaumrais for some squid?

from what im reading about what squid do in certain conditions and so on i recon may or early june will be nuts for squid...
yeah beauy is gone dead in the mornings and even the evenings are slowing right down, and way to many people these days.

I'm told there are more squid being caught at blackrock breakwall and sandy breakwalls.
i was thinking of fishing beau saturday morning and the breakwalls saturday arvo night, but mite do brighton saturday morning.

i had a look on google maps, there looks to be more weed, rocks around th epier than the breakwall.
The breakwall is all rocks, and those are weed beds near the pier. But blackrock pier is like mornington small squid mainly and not much room on the weekends.

I'll weigh up the weather and tides and decide where to fish on the weekend i want a freezer full of gar before the crap weather sets in.
so they just fish off the rocks where the cars are parked? or the pier itself?

i think i mite go to japan to get some squid gear and bring it back, jigsm rods, gaffs, scents all that stuff.

and maybe hook up with some locals and go for a fish....

i hope wind and rain stay away, i think i mite fish tomorow sunset till around 8 or 9.

rocksy which pier are you talkign about?

Im with you the japanese have the best squid gear. I have a squid gaff and it is really easy to use and took a little gettign used to but works a treat. I pulled in 5 with it the other night and beats carryign arround a net which is a pain in the bum. My gaff is sold up to about 2 foot long and extends to metres. Woudl highly recomment it. I got it on www.plat.co.jp if you get a bit of gear its works out ok. jigs are about $12 to $15 on the site.

Next time i go to japan i will get soem more gear and get out for a squid fish to learn some tricks from the experts.

Im keen to get my hands on a good quid reel like the sephia or get the double handle for my existing reel. do you know if you can get them here?
Blackrock pier.

the sephia has been discontinued i think. Daiwa Emerelda is a squid reel.

Buy it from a japanese site though to expensive here.
Fished Beaumaris BMYS peir last night and nothing. I got there about an hour before high tide and 2 hours after and not even a touch. There were a few other guys trying for squid as well but nothing. A guy on the end of the peir ended up with a few pinkies but he had been there a long time he said.

I tried all varieties of jigs and colour and nothing. I think the water was still too stirred up from the weather. I went out early in the mornign yesterday and gave up in 5 minutes. The wnd was blowing a gale and the water was very choppy and I never see, to catch any squid in those conditions.

What is the opinion on water clarity conditions. Can you be successful in dirty water conditions. From what I have read in these conditions you should try the lighter colour jigs or glow jigs but i do that and still noting. Where do squid go in ###### weather conditions or do they just sit tight and wait the weather out befroe feeding?

today the weather looks much better...
i fished beauy yesterday and today from 4am until sunrise. 3 squid all up, but i bailed this morning at 6 to try brighton. water was fine both mornings. the wind picked up around 7 yesterday thats why i left.

Rule of thumb for me anywhere there are guys fishing and catching garfish, or if you can see gars feeding then its clean enough for squid.

Something has made them move out of beaumaris bay, or into the deeper water. because parkdale reef is fishing well and the boaties fishing deeper water out front of beaumaris bay is fishing alright.

I've only left without squid once in 7 mornings within the last 10 days, but i've worked hard for them all.

If you see a guy with a small black jig waist/shoulder bag either wearing a buff on my head or a army hat come say g'day
i hav been told that the walking path before rickets point neart 4th street black rock is okay for squiding . have you ever tried there. ?

ihave not ried squiding at brighton. what do you think is better. i typically always come home with 1 to 3 squid but the last weekend was a wipeout with nothing for me.

say gday if yu see me. you will see my in a bright yelow stormy jacket this time of year.

cheers kim

Yeah i have been told about 4th street as well, Brighton fishes well for those who fish it all the time and know what the score is. It's always been a dead end for me. every place has it's own style i can't work brighton out.

Everyone has a yellow storm jacket this time of year...<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> I'll look for the squid gaff.
Went to fish at brighton early this morning with Mason, got 5 smallish/medium squid on the size 3's and didn't lose any squid for once. Mason had braid issues and parted company with a few jigs :|

Good morning all up, but man was it chilly.

I really need a squid gaff, and a new Egiing outfit.
