Hi everyone,

I've never tried squiding when the sun is up in the sky. I know that you can still catch them during day time, but is it productive? And should I use baited jigs or prawn jigs during the day? Any preference in colours of prawn jigs?

Thanks in advance for you input. TTL

hi TTL,

99% of my squiding is done during daylight hours with success using both artificial and baited jigs. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hey all im back after a long break both from my computer and squidding. went last weekend though and after a slow start, my cousin reeled in a monster on a baited jig, then we pulled in 6 or seven in quick succession, off the rocks at second valley. took a few pics and might post them on here

i see alot of people at mornington pier catching squid especially just before dark. one guy must have got about six of them on the boat side of the pier near the car park <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> i have only caught one squid and that was at night under a lamp light.
Good to see you back Paulus!!

Been a good season so far for squid in SA - i want to get out soon, as ive heard lots of reports of bag limits from Rapid Bay!!

Hi,

Can you tell me how you fish for squid during the day time? Do you use a float or send the jag to the bottom by weight?

Here the squid is coming to shore in Auckland NZ.

Peter
Hey peter!

I usually fish a baited jig under a float, and then cast prawn style jags around it - i always use a sinker on the bottom, with the jag sitting about 40cm above it - keeps it just above the weed line then, where the squid like to hide!!
 Has anyone heard of anyone cathing sqid in the daytime on the West coast of the US; or Washington state?
Yes, they were actually biting quite well during the day July and August. I haven't been fishing much this last month or so, as I have been pretty busy with other things.

I haven't tried fishing during the day in the fall/winter yet, but I would assume should work the same. They are likely deeper during the day, closer to the bottom.
