havent done too much squidding myself, but i do enjoy it. ive got a 6 foot shakespeare estuary combo, and i just flick the jigs around whenever i get a chance. ive had the best luck with ornage and/or pink jiggs and would reccomend you tie one of the those swivels with the clips on them so you can change colours if need be.

HI,
Squid fishing in Auckland is getting better now.
Refer to my records, I found squiding is better with inshore swell.
Though tried many times fishing with offshore wind and calm sea, the result was not as good as light inshore swell. This coincide with fishing on the shore.

Get down to Orakei during a high tide around 6-10pm. leave your rod in the car and watch others. Go up to people and ask to look at their jigs and rigs, but dont be a nuisance....
On the whalf are some people with lights who get a lot of squid.
On the road the ones with good catches should be imitated....watch them carefully
Some people do badly.
Orakei is brightly lit all over and easy to see others for miles

Go and see Tony at Yeeha Tackle in Panmure. He has been catching a lot around the waterfront in Auckland so should be able to give you the best advise.
