High Richard,

They normally drift from the Barrenjoey end inwards (I don't have a map with me so I can't be more precise) This is relatively narrow neck but a good long drift, mostly over a sand bottom. On the Palm beach side there is a long beach ( probably called Barrenjoy??) and at the Barrenjoey Head end there are a number of boats moored. This is a very weedy area where I have caught squid previously. I imagine you can get there on foot but you would have to check on a map. Sorry to be so vague but tomorrow I'll pull out a map and see if I can be precise.
Hi Colin,

Thanks! Palm beach is a surf beach so its must be the long "muddy" beach at the south side of Palm beach and Barrenjoey head. I went there about this time last year and had a swim, it was very muddy and weedy in the bottom, and i also saw some small flathead and other fishes as well. When i was about to leave in the later afternoon many beach fishoes turned up, and they told me its a prime sport for bream and whiting. I will bring my gear next time and give a fish and squid! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Cheers,

Richard

Hello Richard,

I haven't been on the site for a while, I have had domestic chores to finish throughout winter and am just getting back into fishing and squidding now. Did you get a chance to try Pittwater for squid? About two weeks ago my friend caught some great flatties in that area but also caught 5 squid as a by catch. He didn't give me any idea how big they were though.

I went to Botany Bay recently ( end of Nov) and anchored up near Bare island at Le Perouse to try and get some squid. Had no luck at all. Looks like the repairs to the bridge may be finished though.

I hope to get out to Pittwater in the next few days so I'll let you know if I have any luck.

Cheers mate!

I went to pittwater last week during the day and caught half a dozen breams and a nice flatty. was in the middle of the day so didnt target squids. But it was great fun!

Havent been squidding much in la perouse - the divers/spearfishers were thick, and you get a few mad kids jumping off the bridge occasionally, so I couldnt be bothered. i will give it a go probably end of this week, hopefully not as many people there. flatties are biting very well now in frenchman's bay <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hope you catch heaps!
Hi guys been fishing pitwatter off the wharves and been getting quite a few squid mainly just small ones but perfect bait size. Went out on our boat the other day went for a few drifts few careel bay didn't get any pull up to the wharf there and instantly have 3 small squid chasing my jig. They were being a bit shy only seemed to like a small blue jig. Hopefully taking boat out again tomorrow will let you know how i go.

Went asquidding last week in pittwater, along the front of the lighthouse and around on avalon side. I got up late and just headed out at about 1/2 tide rising and dropped out a float with a spike and a yakka under it. and flicked into the weed beds with a rod. I was using blue and pink jigs, 3 hrs got me a 38cm hood model and 2 hookups that I lost.(newbie)The water was 15c. All hookups were under the float. Im gonna use smaller jigs next time and see if that makes a difference.
