tip 1.next time this happens try droping the jig below and lift the rod tip slowly

 

tip 2.mabye the water was running to fast below the suface

a few people up this way have tried it to some mixed results...I dont bother with any of that stuff as I fear getting some other chemical on my jigs the you cant remove....keep it simple...keep it safe.

Try freefalling the jig, stopping then dropping again with a little resistance. Repeat

Watch your line the whole time as they hit it on the drop often.
