Swan Bay - Bellarine Pennisula/Victoria
Landbased/Boat
Swan bay is an esturay between Queenscliff and St Leonards on the Bellarine Pennisula.
At the end of Swan bay road is a Jetty and a boat ramp which is only suitable for craft under 5 metres.
The jetty is unlit at night so portable lighting is a must.
Squid fishing from this peir is fair to good around the late october to early january
with clear still nights the prefered working the middle to the end of the peir with a rod and lure there are some huge squid to be caught on the right nights. not in big numbers but they are there.
I have found that red or blue lures and baited jigs work the best in this area.
other species caught are Mullet, leatherjacket, Huge flathead, Snapper Pinkies and good numbers of garfish on calm spring mornings. and Gummy Sharks with rising tide good for all species.
The main thing to think about when fishing this area is water clarity and wind ,if you arrive there and the water is dirty the most you are likely to catch is Mullet or nothing.
This peir is well worth a look when other peirs are full of anglers.
Warning this area is now a marine park and fishing is only allowed on the jetty so check where your fishing if your in a boat.
