<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> walked down to flinders pier and saw this guy pull up a nice size flat head and tthe funniest part was that the flat head had swallowed the prawn style squid jig whole!
he had to cut the flat head open to get it out and i think he was using a yellow jig. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Yeah I have caught a few fish on prawn style jigs, including a yakka which swallowed the whole of the pointy end (surgery was required), couta, flathead, and the weirdest was about 3 weeks ago when I caught a 28cm pinky on a yamashita size 2...only it was hooked in the side of the fish, nowhere near the mouth.
thats nasty
i hope one day i will catch a fish that is game enought o go for a squid jag <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />
squid master
I have caught a couple of small salmon on my small jigs. But I have a friend in Alaska that removed the hooks on a size 2.0 luminous prawn, attached a treble hook to the end, and said it was the HOTTEST thing for sea bass and cod fishing.

I was trolling a squid jig behind my mates boat on our way out to out favourite squidding grounds as we usually pick up the odd squid or 2. Managed to jag 2 good size snook on our way out! Also a few years back off our south coasts Granite Island screwpile jetty me old boy caught a 10kg baracotta on his favourite pink jig!!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />
It surprises me that more people don't catch more fish on their jigs. As fancy as a lot of jigs are, I would think a lot of fish would jump at the chance to eat them.

Yeah i was out squidding tonight, as i was pulling up my jig from the water i noticed a pretty decent size flattie following it - he retreated as the jig left the water. Interesting though. Maybe someone should invent jigs that serve to catch both fish and squid - a one size fits all bottom feeder jig.
Nlok
the only thing ive ever caught of a squid jig other than squid are toad fish. there just stupid and swim into the jig and hook themselves in the side or tail etc. pain in the ass.
In my years as a squidder i have Kingfish, salmon, flathead, barracouta I have even had the prongs torn off by squid. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Went to mornington pier for squid last monday, wanted to try out my christmas present from my brother, a nice new yo. jig in brown. Got there just before sunrise didn't catch one till 9:30 decided to go home, as we were walking back to the car park I decided to give the start of the pier a go (left of wild thing). I cast it in and jigged it no more than twice and it got smashed - snapped the jig right off the line, caught my finger on the reel too. Off went the nice new jig never to be seen again. I don't know what kind of fish it was but it was big. I'm going back in a couple of days to get my jig back. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />
hi squidlet, maybe it was a barracuta? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
cheers, glen
hi glen,
Really? Do they come in that close? Went back to the spot today but Sabrina was docked. I'm intrigued - will try again in a couple of days. Sorry slightly off topic, have you ever caught a fish that close to the carpark?
yes i have seen schools of barracuta come in close under the lights at night....though they don't usually stay for very long.
cheers, glen
