Hi guys,

I found a good singapore fishing website that has some discussion of squid fishing in that country.

http://www.fishingsingapore.com

A few spots mentioned for fishing for squid and cuttlefish include -

1) the rocks around frog island (at the eastern end of Ubin) on a daytime.

2) lim chu kang

Hi Glen and fellow fishermans,

I am Vince from Singapore and i love to fish for squids as well...

Attached is a photo i took on the boat with 2 arrow squids on 2 Yamashitas jigs tied on a same line....Both caught in Singapore waters.

Cheers,

Vince <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />
Hi Blurtadpole,

Welcome to the forum. It is great to have someone on board with some experience fishing in Singapore.

It would be terrific if you could tell us a few good spots in Singapore for squid fishing (either from boat or from land).

is it correct to say that frog island and lim chu kang are good spots?

cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Hi Glen,

Thanks heaps for inviting me into the forum...!

I would say the the Southern islands off Singapore would be a great spot to target arrow aquid and calamary....Me and my mates would normally fish for the squids on the chartered boat using baited jig which is lowered 1 metre into the water (at a highly lit boat side) to attract the squids. Usually we would scoop the smaller squids with a scoop net rather than trying to pull it up the baited jig as the smaller ones doesn't hold well. The smaller squids are then kept alive in a baitwell and used to target golden snappers, groupers etc...

Sentosa would be the place to do land squidding as the water is clearer with heaps of sea grass growing...

Hope that this helps...

Cheers,

Vince. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Hi Glen,

Normally, fishos would just fish near or on the Ferry Terminal....

But there are other potential spots around the island to be explored...

And those other spots would have to be fished from the rocks...

Cheers,

Vince. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />
great...thanks for the extra info Vince! much appreciated,

hi david,

what is the squid jig made of? looks very interesting.

cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />
Hi glen

The squid jig is made of normal string using the method of chinese knoting and form into the shape of a shrimp. The hooks are normal fishing hooks tie together.

well if you have a chance to visit singapore, do inform me. I could make you a special squid jig. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/images2.jpg' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />
Hi david, Thanks very much for the kind offer. I have never seen a jig like that before. It is very nice work.

Hi sfoxnh

I will try to post a "step by step" on how to construct the lure at a later date.

Hope that everyone catch more squid.. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/images2.jpg' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

how come i tried several times at labrador jetty but still i dun get any squid? is der any depth that is required?
Hi squiddie

There are various factors to look at; the current flow, water condition, type of jig you used, the presentation of your jig and most important part is to be hardworking.

Depth?

The deeper the better but be carefull of the seaweed and coral below.
