This article describes the current success of squid fishing charter trips in the Bodega Bay area. It appears that the invasion of giant squid has saved the charter fishing industry. The squid are expected to remain in the area while the water temperature remains at 55 F. An abundance of bait fish is responsible for attracting the squid.

Roger Thomas, who has owned and operated passenger ferries in the San Francisco Bay since 1968, says the squid make excellent eating, but the trick is in the processing. The steak needs to be pounded with a wooden mallet to soften it up, and then he recommends batter frying small chunks.
