Hey guys

Theres also lots of small squid but none seem to be interested in anything offered to them

Queenscliff has been very quite of late but Mornington has squid in near plage proportions.

I havent been down there myself but from reports I would say it is worth a trip but if your really wanting to go and have a better chance Id probably wait a few more days and wait for this wind to die down a bit
Supersquid my friend,

You have to be in it to win it ! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

August is a good time for Squid in western port.

You just have to check the weather and fishing reports.

Quote:WARNEET PIER

For the landbased angler around the Port, Warneet pier has been the pick for the week. Plenty of small Salmon, Trevally, Mullet and some very big Squid are available for those willing to put in the time. Regular customer Dave told us about a Squid that was 1m long caught off the end of the pier. And also an even bigger one of 1.3m was caught in the Warneet channel. More information to come next week.

TYABB BANK:

Regular customer Ron Smith fished the Tyabb Bank last weekend. He fished the run in tide to catch good numbers of calamari to 2 kilos. The larger calamari were taken when fishing with silver whiting on a squid prong under a float. He also drifted across the bank casting squid jigs, catching another 4 calamari.

I got some nice squid to 2kg from the boat Sunday.

Driftin over the Tyabb in 5-2mtrs. Most hits were around 3-4mtrs.

Had one squid manage a great ink shot into the cabin and all over

my sounder screen. Some times it seems like their really targeting.

PS, loving the new Stabi. So far 1 snapper at 3.1kg, 'bout a doz squid,

doz salmon, doz coutta, 1mtr gummy and a few flat fish.

Dave/
Hi Dave, is the water clear or murky? Cheers, Glen
It was a little dirty. Could see bottom and leatherjackets ect by about 2.5mtrs.

Managed to entice a nice leatherjacket to bite the jig.

Here's one from Flinders pier about 2 months ago.

Just downloaded from my phone now...

You can size him up well with the ice coffee container. All other items oversize.
that is a ripper!
nice catch there. im planning to head down there this arvo myself. hopefully ill catch sum on the rising tide.
Got my son Jack on the water Saturday from Hastings.

Drifted around Tyabb about 5-6 times before we found them.

Great to get him out in the new boat, just the two of us.

Ended up with 7 between 300gm-1.5kg.

Jack was trying very hard to ink his old man.

Again the 2.5 & 3.5 in brown & gold did the job.

Dave.
Hahaha. Looks like he is hooked for life!!! Cheers, Glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Good mate Pete Ferguson has been having some great success fishing for squid along the Tyabb and Quail bank just outside of the Yaringa channel during the week. Most of these tasty morsels have been taken while casting Yo Zuri “Q-Real” jigs in the black colour with a couple of the bigger squid pushing 2kg. Pete also had success on one of the tougher days by drop shotting a couple of jigs right under the boat as he was casting, so it pays to have a few drop shotting sinkers handy for when times get tough. You can talk to CTW staff about this technique for more info.

There has been some good calamari fishing inside Coronet bay over the last two days. John Peterson fished Coronet Bay in 3 meters of water over the weed beds. Using baited jigs with silver whiting he managed two nice calamari around a kilo in weight and a further 4 smaller ones using the Orange Clicks Jig.
