I heard on the wireless this morning that some bloke in sydney found a port jackson shark egg and nurtured it at an aquarium and hatched it out and released it into the harbour. Is this a load of B/S? I thought sharks didnt lay eggs?
Please explain....
Some sharks definately do lay eggs (eg/ port jacksons), some also give birth to live young (eg/ tiger sharks). The egg case of a port jackson is known as a 'mermaid's purse', it's kinda leathery, a bit like kelp, with little tendrils that anchor it to the kelp or rocks.
hey guys, just me again.
my mum found 3 of these in amongst the seaweed at mentone beach.
would some1 be able to tell me wat type of shark eggs they are.
the pic below is not actually the one we found but it looked very similar.
thanks, pj
