Hi everybody. I read somewhere that jigs can be float fished with good results. where I live in spain, NOBODY (that I've seen) employs this method. they prefer the cast & retrieve job & almost always with just the one jig & glow light. would someone please describe a typical float rig so I can give it a go & blow the locals' minds!
best,
Mac
hey mac,
you can definitely use a float to catch squid. The best option is to use a baited jig. This involves placing a natural bait such as a whole fish (maybe 8 inches long) on a squid jag or skewer (see photo) -
there is a whole sub-forum deidated to using squid jags (which also called baited jigs) -

The other less impressive option is to use a prawn style artificial jig under a float. it does work, but maybe not well enough to "blow the locals' minds!" <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

if you can't find any then we can discuss how to make some yourself.
i heard the other day from someone who was making them out of bicycle spokes and umbrella hooks!!!
best of luck
