Fellas, im based in Adelaide and i am interested in making my own squid jags, i was wondering if anyone knew where i could aquire the parts i need without having to ship them in from overseas as that is not an option. Any help would be much appreciated, cheers.
a lot of tackle stores in melbourne sell the umbrella squid hooks (i guess they do the same in SA)....the 'eyes' could easily be obtained from a craft store...the lead weight/balance can be made from melted down or reshaped lead sinkers....the swivel can be a usual swivel for line fishing....the cloth covering could be obtained from a fabric store...you would have to do some research on getting some waterproof paint to give the jig a design....you could buy some balsa wood to make the body...its easy enough to carve balsa wood into shape with a knife and some sandpaper.
hope this gives you a few ideas, all the best glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
would be good to see some photos of your creations!

You can acquire from Coleman website, Ebay, and Auburn Sports & Marine Inc. I purchase the following parts and assembled them myself. It doesn't look proffession, but simple and easy to assemble.
Squid Hook purchased from Ebay.
1/4" hollow center core lead (red color) from Auburn Sports & Marine.
1/4" glow in the dark heat sink tubing. Mylar tubing can be use to reflect light.
Use solid wire as center shaft. This part can be purchase from Coleman.

Yes, we have quite a good assortment of items for making your own jigs. Actually, a lot of it actually isn't listed on the web site. We have some new items that I will be introducing in a couple months. One of which is some special luminous lure tape (waterproof, different colors, doesn't peel itself off, EXTREMELY flexible) also have some special new squid jigs that will be coming out in the next couple months.

I was wondering if you could send me some pictures of jigs that you have made up, so that way i know what i am looking at.
Or do you know of any other members that may have some.
Also if it's not asking to much would you be able to tell me what a good assortment of jig sizes is good to have for the different conditions.

Just go to our web site www.squidjig.com and look on the left side for Puget Sound Squid Teasers, there are several different sections for different models.
The Tiny Teasers have been very good this season, and the Squid Bomb has also been doing well. I have had a lot of good reports from the Bullet Head jigs, the colors I've heard back from so far that were hot are (clear, blue, chartreuse, pink, green).
We actually have a much larger selection available, as there are many models that aren't photographed.

Hi Jon,
I'm from Seattle area and very new to squid fishing. What type of jig do you recommend and do you have a store so that I can go and pick up some jigs right away instead of waiting for shipment? Thanks

HI,
This is a good time to start squid fishing, as it's just starting to pick up. Just last Wednesday, I heard pier 56 in downtown Seattle was HOT!! They were hitting well from about 7:30-11pm. The squid are small right now, so you want to make sure to use small jigs. I'm pretty low on stock on my small jigs right now. There are a couple of shops that I could suggest.
Linc's Tackle - They regularly stock my jigs, and has a good selection of small jigs.
Outdoor Emporium - on 4th Ave, just south of downtown. I just brought a LARGE order to them last week, so they have a very good assortment.
