Quote:Went to Hyannis harbor this morning. Failed terribly. Walked around until I found ink and when I did, I found lots of it. Some of it looked fresh. I knew something was up because I was the only soul in sight until sunrise. Guys came off the boats with buckets of scup and the few of them that walked by me to look in my bucket all said similar things along the lines of "You're kinda late" and "they've been hitting them since the first of May over here" as well as "the whole harbor was on fire"
When I got in to my odorless vehicle i fastened my seatbelt, let out a sigh and thought, "must be nice"
Anywho, France's fleet anyone?

Â
I have reservation for tonight but they said need a few more people. Its a good time and weather looks good

as of right now I am. Heading to the bridge to enjoy the sun and if a miracle happens, I'll stay in Newport. If not, I'll be on the Frances fleet
. You thinking about it too?
France's fleet just posted their report from
Last night stating that high hook caught about 50. Hmm idk. About a dollar each squid
Was thinking about towing the boat down on Friday for my first squiding trip ever. What passage is best east or west? Was thinking about going near the Jamestown bridge..any advice??
@skwidbert - thanks! Â Wonder if that owner is SquiderBruce. Â

No,it's not.  I used this jig. It is probably not sold in Amzon.
I bought it in Ocean State tackle. $9 or $12 (I bought many and don't know the price)
Â
But I think the jig you showed is also good.
My Yo-zuri is size 4. It is bigger than the jigs other fisher used.Â
They use size 2.5 or 3.
Because squids are little now,  small size jigs are good.
Â
I didn't use sinker and up down only.
Expert use sinkers, so I will study about sinker.Â
Â
Good Luck for all squidfishers
Called France's fleet, looking grim

The short answer is that there are almost certainly squid on the East side of the Island. The tough thing is that you will have to find a spot that is accessible with the right conditions. That side of the island is mostly shell, sand and mud bottom with very little weed. You might try 3rd beach in Middletown or possibly up by Stone Bridge, but I would expect not to catch anything for a whole lot of time and effort. The other side of the Island is where most of the eelgrass beds and weedy bottom are, with all the coves and harbors and semi-enclosed areas that squid seek out. If you've got a boat, you can go pretty much anyplace. Otherwise, I would head over to the West side of the island.
Went to Hyanis yesterday on a $500 six pack charter on the boat Bad Influence with Captain Jeff. Comes out to $85 per person.Had 15 cat litter buckets of mostly large to extra large tubes in 8 hours. On the way back we drifted for 30 minutes and had well over 100 jumbo porgies when our arms started to falloff and we cried "Uncle"! Snaildarter

Saw the pictures. Wish I were on that boat. You guys totally killed it. Awesome!
Yep Frances fleet cancelled due to lack of interest from enough people. I was already 45 minutes into the
2 hr trip when they called me to say its cancelled.  Kept going on to GI only to find lots of people and the
wind was blowing pretty good. Stayed for 1/2 hr and saw 1 squid taken on the island side of bridge. Went
across bridge again and found a spot that looked good. By 9pm the place was packed, It was a slow pick
but squid were there. Ended up with 9 by midnight and left as a fight started to break out, about the usual
peole who come late and then force their way between you and the next person and now lines get tangled
and the asian lady starts yelling in that hi pitched wine that goes right through you and so it starts. The folks
that were there early were very nice and helpful, those that came later would step on your head to catch a squid.
Thats why I like fishing out of boat (Frances fleet)Â I did take a little break and walked around asking/looking
for sqidderbruce and squidbert but no one knew them, at least the ones that spoke english.  Ahhhh the
squid wars are on. One thing I did notice is the folks that were doing better (they had about 15 squid) were
using a little bit different technique with a diff setup (sinker between upper and lower jig) like they were
dragging bottom. Lot of floating weeds was a pain as you had to keep cleaning off jigs.  Squid wouldn't
hit if weeds on hooks trailering jig.
Went out to Tiv yesterday and caught 2 squids from 8-10pm... the squid come n go almost instantly... you can see them in the water and 5 mins later they r gone. Few people got around 10-15 with jig. I tried treble hooks last night but couldnt catch anything and half of the time it keep geting tangle up with others. so i gave up and went back to jig
