well, i decided at the last moment to go out last night. ended up taking the first beachside road after eelrace road, if traveling from seaford.

weather was pretty good. wind below 5 knots most of the time.

it was all pretty quiet really. got one flounder - 29cm

saw a couple of HUGE garfish, but those big ones swim deep and fast. also saw a nice sized banjo and a ton of crabs (if only it wasn't illegal to take em)

anyway, for 2 hours in the dark, i thought i did OK

i have now officially speared my first SOLO flounder. that is, i found it by myself and i speared it. very satisfying to know that i can actually spot them if they are there.

till next time folks
well done steeny! i have been too wimpy lately with the cold weather and just haven't been out. shame on me! good to know the gars are still about, <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup2:' />
glen, it got bloody cold after being there for an hour. i wore jeans, tracksuit pants, two pairs of socks, a tshirt, jumper, jacket and waders. the first hour was great, but the second started to get a little cold. i almost need a balaclava. neoprene gloves wouldn't go astray either.

i'm thinking next week i might have to head further down the bay again. perhaps safety beach, or maybe back to blairgowrie. its just such a lond drive. and with petrol prices, its hard to justify.
try getting some neoprene socks..they are great! about 2 or 3mm thick should be enough..they sell them in surf shops.
well, its gonna be cold, but is anyone interested in trying to get out tonight?

the winds look OK at the moment, though i'll keep a close eye on them during the day.
well, i did end up going. stayed in the water from about 8:30 to 11ish. first the left hand side of seaford pier, then the right.

got 3 flounder - 2@32cm and 1@25cm. very happy.

should have had at least 2 mullet to add, but i need a lot more practice hitting them. there were a few gar about, i got one little one.

so all in all i have a very productive night. i could have had the same tally had i not gone over to the right hand side of the pier. nothing at all over there cept some crabs and a lone ray.

well, i might go out again tomorrow night if the weathers like this again.

cheers all
well done steeny. i haven't had a chance to do much fishing lately.

i am hoping to go to phillip island tomorrow if i can drag myself out of bed <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />
well, decided to get drunk instead of fish sat night, but i did manage to get out again last night. beautiful weather, water was calm, but there were no fish. I managed two gar, saw a couple of mullet race off into the dark, but that was it. anyway, thems the breaks i guess.

depending on the weather this week, i might have to try further down the peninsula agian. perhaps blairgowrie, though its such a long drive.

cheers
Good to hear you're getting amongst them Steeny, I haven't had time to scratch myself let alone chase flounder recently <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

The floundering should pick up this coming week as the moon is very small.
on sunday we got five average salmon between myself and my dad. four from anderson inlet (near inverloch) and one off the beach at wonthaggi <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

i think we would have caught more if we managed to get up a little earlier. it was a great day to go fishing.

glen
Nice work Glen. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> I love surf fishing around Inverloch, it's a beautiful part of Victoria, and the beaches are usually productive.

I had a crack at the salmon-salmon double on Saturday (aiming to catch a Chinook salmon from the kayak at Lake Bullen Merri in Camperdown, then catch an Australian salmon from the surf at Johanna beach near Apollo Bay). I did manage to catch a couple of small Chinook at Bullen Merri (biggest 28cm), but arrived at Johanna to find the beach very full, I had to take up a bad position in a sideways wash, and didn't catch anything <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />
well done catching the "non-australian" salmon <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> lures? bait?
Picked up the smaller fish (only 20cm or so) trolling a 9cm Daiwa Hyper Minnow, hooked the larger one working a GULP! 3" minnow soft plastic in about 40m of water <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> It was amazing, we were only fishing about 100m from the shore and the sounder read between 40 and 50 metres. It sure does drop in steep!
hi jazman,

that is a huge drop! i have never targeted salmonoids on soft plastics. its good to know they are keen on them.

cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />
well, weather looks good again. anyone up for a flounder tonight?
are you mad? "24" is on! how can you miss it!?! LOL <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

hope you catch a few though!

cheers, glen
I've only just got back from a busy few days.....work and meetings in Canberra last week, then a ski trip to Mt Buller, where we were really lucky to get a few good dumps of snow. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I'm keen to go floundering pretty much anytime depending on what else I have on.....if I don't have anything planned I'm in for sure. Just post here when you're thinking about getting out next, I'll do the same. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
the wind still looks a little rough this week. though it did get down to a respectable number last night. perhaps later in the week if the winds settle a little.

glad you got snow at buller. its been a pretty lean season so far
Yep, I'm still counting my lucky stars - extremely fortunate to get snow during the one and only trip I'll do this year!!

Weather looks alright for this Friday or Saturday night maybe??

Friday

Southerly wind of 5 to 10 knots. Waves to half a metre.

Saturday

Variable winds of 10 knots or less. Waves below half a metre.
Ha aargh, 'tas bin awhile me hearties. I be keen to go aspearin'

Went out all by me lonesome last Wednesday, Speared me a large garfish and three flounder before the wire twisted off my clip and I had to re-assemble it in pitch darkness! Hahaha!

I also missed a FAT flatty as big as me arm 'cause he got spooked and I couldn't chase him and I missed a school o' six mullet and two fat gars! I also had to discourage a friendly stingray that kept following me.

Ha hahaargh.

Fri-Sun look real good. Jazman, gimme ahoy if ya keen to go out.
