Quote:Bonavista squid fishery cut short

After just two weeks, the squid fishery on Newfoundland's Bonavista Peninsula ended abruptly Sunday when Fishery Products International said it is no longer buying squid at its plant there.
About 60 small-boat fishermen were selling squid to FPI's Bonavista plant for 15 cents a pound when the company, which freezes the squid and sells it as bait, said it already has enough for the year.
Bonavista Deputy Mayor Hedley Butler said fishermen were counting on the season to last for at least another three weeks.
Butler said there is an abundance of squid in the area, and he doesn't understand why FPI can't find a food market for it.
