Hi guys, I went to Cowes Pier on saturday when it was very cold and windy. Between myself and the family we got 3 flathead and 1 small octopus. I kept the octopus to see what it tastes like.

A few people were getting some trevally but for some reason we did not get any. they were only metres away from us so its a bit of a mystery to me. they were using fish baits and we were using pippies but i can't see why that would matter.

A young bloke got a nice sized elephant shark of about 2.5kg I guess.

I have never been here before. Was worth a look in the horrible weather as it is protected from a southerly wind to some extent.

Cheers, Glen
Nice work Glen! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> I've also never fished at Cowes pier before, but I have fished at Newhaven Jetty a few years ago - we fished at night, targetting gummy sharks and squid, but all we caught was a few rock cod and some of those annoying draughtboard sharks <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
Glen,

I moved to Cowes at the beginning of the year. If I knew you were having a fish on Saturday I would've popped down to say hello.

The pier at the moment is a bit quiet. Some trevally are being caught including some nice ones. The best time is early morning. A couple of the locals have been doing well on pilchard pieces. Other than trevally there has been the odd whiting been caught before the 'T' of the jetty and the locals berley up some large mullet on calm days in the shallows. If you put in some time and have some luck their is a chance of a gummy off the ends.

We had a big run of elephants about 5 weeks ago. Bagged out every time I dropped a line in during that time but they have since moved on.

I generally dont fish the jetty preffering some other spots. lately I have been having a bit of fun on calm nights with some big pike on plastics.

Hopefully will see some squid tenticles over the next few months.

Cheers,

Snapperman
hi Snapper man,

thanks for the info. cowes seems like a very nice place to live. though you have to wrestle with all the tourists hey! i could not believe how many tourists were there.

i was wondering if you have tried any of the rock fishing platforms on the north side of the island? are they any good?

cheers, glen
