hi tiowher,

you can try mornington pier, rye pier, portsea pier or flinders pier. they all have squid! hope you catch a few!

hope that helps, cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
hello all i would love to now when and where is the best spot to catch squid i have a boat also can anyone tell me please what is the best spot and where abouts i live near mordiallic in melbourne and what type of jig should i use or live bait i never catch a squid before i would love to catch on and also what time of the day is best to catch them ????

Please anyone help me out on this topic on catch squid and where in melbourne . thanks all karl
Kz, this may be better placed in the Australia , Victoria section.

I'm mainly Land based, but from the boat, straight out from Mordi pier and south 3-500mtrs.

Also off MtMartha area is well worth a shot. Dromana bay between 6-8 meters.

Drift along the weed bed's. Have one whiting out the back set under a float on jag close to the bottom, an artificial jig straight down from the boat close to bottom, and cast and retrieve a third artificial.

Also effective.., simlpe hand line with baited jag or artificial on a single paternoster, sinker below to bounce off the bottom.

I have caught a lot off Mordi Pier at night including a few bag limits, some nights they go off, some nights they don't. If you live close to the pier you've got a good chance to really suss them out. I've done best on small jigs (size 1.8 yamashita), and my favorite spot on the pier is the closest light to the mouth of the creek.
thanks for that jazman so u fished at the end of the peir or soon as u go out of the opening of the creek
went out a couple of times this week, sorrento , blairs, and mornington for nothing. hrmmmmmm . have they all gone into hiding??

seal was at sorrento and blairgowrie. i swear it was following me down the highway. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />
went to blairgowrie last night, got 6 squid all not bad. had one massive squid swim straight past the jig without even looking at it.
been very quiet here latley, maybe the lack of squid, or is it just me !

as the title mentions me and phil have been fishing the bottom end a fair bit and also across at flinders, the squid have been very

slow the last month, still getting them but having to put in longer than excpected hours!

colours that are productive are blue and red. and the occasional hit on the brown yo zuri in 2.0

im not fishing anything bigger than 2.0 atm.

we have a new saying, 1 an hour. thats how slow they have been.

anyway i decided after losing a few that it was time to spend a bit of money on new jigs. went to the usual anaconda and rays , all their jigs are ###### so

went up to tackle world in cranbourne, there range is amazing, spent up and bought some clicks yamashita and ye old faithful yo zuri. im very keen to try the clicks jig.

will give it ago tommorrow night.

cheers

rob

up and down.

hopefully the new jigs prove good

i forgot to mention the last few weeks the water has been very calm so i dont think this has been helping

hopefully with tommorrow nights weather predictions it should get to 15 knots which will be good.

havent been to mt martha for a few months now, only fished it a few times but had good results, maybe when its to calm for my local haunts

i will head back down there <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
another slow night, they slightly rougher water didnt make as much difference as i thought it would, phil got 3 then 2 hours of nothing i got one then we went to blairgowrie for a couple more.

shithouse <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
10 points for trying!
hi all,

i have had a very frustrating 2 weeks going squidless for a fortnight, sorrento and portsea have been shithouse.

went to mornington one night, as usual it was crap. i would have thought that the spawners would have been through

by now. hrmm what to do!! maybe im just being impatient!

on a bright note i cracked the shits with the squid and went to darwin for 4 days fishing, long flight but

the fishing is amazing went inland for barra and offshore for some serious gt fishing, had a ball, plenty of crocs!!

if i can work it out i will try and put some photos up.
hey rob. it would be good to see some pics. There is some info on posting pics here:

Awesome, please share pics! I've been away from water for 4 weeks <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> , on account that i'm a wus. And now i've been fishing in my dreams, i think my subconscious is telling me something. I checked the Weather on yahoo and it says mostly sunny at mornington tomorrow i might chance frostbite again. Now the problem: go squid or go fish. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />
cool, ill add some pics tommorrow if i get a chance. go for a squid squidlet, boo fishing! i can say that after catching gt's and barra last weekend!

GLEN: have you been out lately, i also reckon we need some forum stickers, whaddayarekon?
Stayed up too late on Fri night, missed the morning tide. ended up going to patterson river for a fishing fix around 3, didn't hook a single thing, barely even a nibble. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />

fished till i couldn't feel my hands anymore. I think i had bad pippies, got the from a servo, they were all crytalized <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Won't go for inferior fixes again.
