Full Version: Squid On Bait

After many nights of rather unsuccessful jigging we had something weird happen, that we have never heard of. Yet another evening came and we were on the jetty again, all prepared with a handful of different colour jigs sitting in the water, whilst we were casting and also trying the walking up and down along the jetty technique. Since so many other times, nothing happens. The squid are not keen at all and we get very frustrated.

In case there was some tuna around, they frequently hang out there too, we used a squid head from one of the old successful days of jigging, and let it sitting in the water. A decent size tuna could somewhat cheer us up in our squid misery.

Little did we expect that when the rod started to bend and we thought it was weed, we had actually come across an arrowsquid, a new species in the area never seen caught there before. And it was munching on the squid head.

Is it possible that maybe different species of squid eat each other?
I've caught arrow squid on squid bait before at night - the squid bait was arrow squid caught a few days earlier. I personally think that the arrows are so aggressive that they'd eat anything <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
There have been many times where i will be pulling in arrow squid only to find another one attached to the hooked squid <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/zorro.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> .

Also caught heaps of arrows on hooks as i'm bottom bouncing in 50~70m, recently i got one in 250m on the bottom! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

Cheers
