Quote:Squid in Puget Sound: "I had a few guys go over to the Bremerton area, and it was better than around here," said Jerry Beppu, owner of Linc's Tackle Shop in Seattle. "The Des Moines pier has some bigger squid about 8 to 10 inches long, and I had a customer get some of those. Locally, I'd try Pier 86 [off Elliott Way]."

Other squid-jiggling areas are the Dash Point, Point Defiance, Les Davis, Vashon and Redondo piers; and Pier 62, the Seattle Aquarium Pier along the Seattle waterfront and the Seacrest Pier in West Seattle.

Quote:North Sound: The bad weather in the past week has kept most anglers off the water. The few reports coming in indicate Jefferson Head and President Point in Marine Area 10 have been good spots, said Mike Chamberlain at Ted’s Sports Center. Squid fishing has been slow.

i'm new to jigging squid so i'm searching to see what type of jig is the best?

I bought the very expensive Yamashita and Yozuri squid jigs but I see people on the dock using different types of jigs... what are the best type of jigs in the Puget Sound region?

Thanks,

PS> I'm having no success jigging in Des Moines, Redondo and Tacoma Dock.. I've heard jiggin is good in Hood Canal area but what places are best for jigging?

Jigging has not been that good on the East side of Puget Sound recently. The Bremerton & Port Orchard areas have been the best. Generally small weighted jigs 1/4-1.5 ounces, fish them vertically. Usually a fast jerk up, and very slow drop and you can feel them bump your line "jerk" and if you're fast enough you got them....

Jon
we are heading out tonight to check out Edmonds and pier 86....will report back with the details!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi learjet, any good? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

I usually recommend smaller sized jigs. The squid usually are more eager to grab the small jigs. Best color varies a lot.... Pink, Green, Orange, Blue...

Well we checked out pier 62/63 and nothing really showing. One asian guy had 1 squid but nothing really showing.

We tried edmonds after this, a small school of squid came through but they were gone in less than a minute. There

is alot of small herring in the water (Very Small) and guys are jigging for them using herring jigs (long leader with small

hooks tipped with white feather like things (you can buy them at walmart for a couple bucks) they had a bucket full of those.

I am thinking it is still alittle early, or the squid are just not in..This is what we saw last year as well, not like it has been in the past where

the squid schools have been pretty good.

the jigs were used are orange and blue, with a good size set of hooks at the bottom, i bought a dozen or so a year ago. you can find them

at the tackle shop at 156th and sr-99 in lynnwood or you can get them at the outdoor emporium 1701 4th ave in seattle (just south of safeco field). Take lost of money you can't leave without buying something.

We will be trying edmonds again next week, around the 15th.....

good luck, keep the reports coming in !!!
anyone catching squid at elliot bay right now? Is there other types of fishing to be had at that pier right now (herring, etc)?

I haven't heard of any decent squid in the Seattle/Tacoma area. However I have been hearing decent reports in Port Orchard & Bremerton.
