Is it me, or in the past two years, has the squidding been MUCH better from the GI bridge?
Just when I thought I had my game dialed in, my gear squared away and a feel for the fishery, I can't seem to pull it out.
Are others experienceing the same?
PS - at least i got a generator and a world of custom made jigs out of it for next year. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

2nd hand info re; Frances Fleet
"joined approximately 49 other RISAA members for a squid fishing trip aboard one of the Francis Fleet boats Saturday night. Overall, the boat caught very few squid. I would say the average was 2 squid per person, with I believe, 7 being the most caught by one person. I don't think you could have filled a 5 gallon bucket with all the squid caught on the boat."

When is the prim time for squid fishing? Apparently this season is not going well for anyone. Approximately how much time is left for squid fishing this year.

The "prime" time for squid is the end (last week) of April until about the end of the 3rd week of May. If you play the tides correctly, any time after sunset can produce HUGE runs of squid.
As everyone has noticed, the squid are real thin this year, and the commercial guys aren't pulling in anything worth talking about either.
I've been out twice (last week), and the first night I landed about 30 of them. The second night produced about 40, but were all tiny.
Each of the nights, the squid were real picky. I had to lay the jig on the bottom, and make it "dance" on the sand. It was the only way they'd take it, and I switched colors several times over the night.
I'll be heading out again, tonight. I figured; What the hell? I haven't had a good catch when the water is flat calm, and the tide is right! So I may as well try it with wind and heavy surf.
My report will be on your desk tomorrow morning.

"How much time is left?" Well, the season's start is dismal compared to other years (except "03 which also (didn't ) bite) if we judge by the MA commercial landings. However, the MA run historically peaks over the next 2 weeks.
the peak in '07 was 5/13-26, with the strongest week 5/20 -26
the peak in '06 was 5/20 - 6/02, with the strongest week 5/ 27 - 6/02

' /> I did see squid feeding under my lamp but nothing came near my jigs. Like mino 401 said, bridge was packed, end to end. You would think THE BITE was on. Nice to meet you squidheads and thanks for buying a reflector. I hope it helped you fill a bucket. I did meet a few squidfish people over on the wall. Johnat & Suzy and the guy with the sweet Honda genny.(can't remember his nickname). Maybe next time I'll try the wall and join the party. I hope you 3 post and tell me things got exciting after I left.
Hey Pearldiver, nice to meet you too! The reflector worked great! I didn't catch any squid, but it definately made it easier to see and brighter too. However, the people who seemed to catch the most (except that guy at the top of the bridge, who I think didn't even have a light!), where those with generators and arrays of bright lights.
So maybe I'll work on getting one of those rigs for next year, so far we've struck out twice this season! I'm beginning to think of waiting for the squid to round Cape Cod, and I can find hopefully find some spots closer to home to greet them!
Anybody know where they'll head on the North or South shores of Boston?

hey squidhead... i go to the 10 mile river that runs through seekonk... it's really fun... basically all you need is some fishing line or thin rope, some chicken wings / drumsticks and a big diameter fish net... tie the chicken wing to one end of the rope and the other to a stick and stick in the ground or tie it off to the tall grass... toss the chicken in the water, not far, maybe about 5 - 10 ft away from you and sit back... watch the line move and you know you have a crab... slowly pull the line in towards you, be careful that the crab does not see you and once it gets close to you, scoop it up with a net <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> just remember do not lift the chicken too high out of the water or the crab will let go... make sure the net is in the water and is underneath and a little back behind the crab... if the crab lets go and swims backwards it will swim right into the net... i always find that the best time is in the morning or evening with an in coming tide... action dies out about 10 am or so get there early about 6 am or so <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rod:' /> last time i went by myself i caught about 30+... average catch is about 15-20 crabs... btw... massachusetts regulation is 4 1/2" from spike to spike...

Hi Guys!
I just found this websites form googling. I been squid fishing (squiding) for a few years on Goat Island, Jamestown and this year results are not that good =( Luckly I was able to catch couple buckets going on boat, fishing under the $2 toll bridge. I went 4-5 times on land last 2 weeks and caught only a few. Lets hope we will all hit some within next couple weeks.

Did pretty good Sunday night...fished for about 4.5 hrs. In the beginning they were being VERY cautious & picky...but managed to do good as the night went on. Such a sight to see squid darting from below to snatch baitfish on the surface.
Ended up with 89 squid between 3 of us. Lost MANY...like probably 20+..and thats just me. My friends lost many also.
Most productive night thus far for us... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Just when I was going to turn in my rod and start going to foxwoods to play poker I hear your wonder reports. I'm going try right after work around 8AM. Have there been good squid runs in the morning? I just bought these half size squid jigs off ebay and I've been dying to try them out.

Was there this morning like I said I was. Man it was windy I couldn't stand it so I left after 15 mins of jigging without results.

depending on the weather, i may try to make it up there this weekend.
