I will be making my first excursion this weekend coming up, have a nasty flu kept me home last weekend but it should clear up in time.

While I was preparing my tackle, I was wondering about how you sharpies set up your rigs. How many jigs do you fish at a time and how far apart do you tie your dropper loops. I was trying to tie dropper loops and just can't seem to get a handle on it. It's fustrating!!!
Hey twiggy and the rest of you squid freaks, here is an animated knot tying site that has 250 different knots. I'm sending the url for the dropper loop but check out the sliding snood which is an Australian double ajustable hook knot similar to our Boa Rig. It's great for fishing whole squid or fluke bellies when you are targeting doormats. With the 20' regs in RI this year, you'll want to fish big baits. Cheers. Snaildarter

Correction...the lights are 500W ea, not 750W, but 4 of them still put out 2000W of light. I am not sure why I thought they were 750??? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />
Sofnx and I were at the bridge from 10:00 to 1:00. Cold windy and not one squid. Less than ten people squidding. The sqiud were here Saturday but nothing the last two days.

Sweet link! My brother actually took one of my boa rigs last year after I had a HUGE and i mean HUGe doormat snap me off at the boat. He retied it somehow using thicker line than the 20 or 25lb leader they used to come with and even made the locking string piece too. He couldn't figure out how he did it so hopefully that link you posted will show me. Nothing beats losing 10lb plus fluke b/c they bit through your leader <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> That fluke was caught on a HUGE whole squid i caught off the bridge last yr.

Yes, I intentionally left room for improvement! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />
Thursday afternoon and all night unless I fill my bucket, cooler and hat. That's the night, I can feel it in these old bones.

I'm still looking for my 1st 10+ pounder. Had an 8 last year. What is nice about the site is that the knots are animated so you can see exactly what you are supposed to do. Then follow the step by step instructions.

Here is the link for the sliding snood. A little trick I learned to help prevent slippage is tie the sliding hook with the waxed rigging floss (about 15 wraps and the hook won't slide down toward the bottom hook. I never could figure out the string piece on the boa rig. Also try putting a shiner or Killie on the hook that goes through the head of the whole squid with that double rig. It drives those fluke nuts!

You guys ever try the Squid chow made by Line Stretcher, I think their made locally?
Saw a ton of squid last night- a lot were small though, and none were biting. All the schools seemed to disappear about 2-3 hours of low tide. Anyone know if you can still jig up squid in the rain? Thinking about trying my luck again.

I lost one that would've gone 13lbs + last yr. I won't cite specifics, but I'll say that I wanted to punch the rookie mate right in his face when he attempted to net this beast tail end first. It broke off literally 5 ft from me and I nearly dove in after it. That was by far the biggest fluke i've seen in my life. Last year was still pretty productive. I must've taken 6 or 7 fish to 9.5lbs last summer. I plan on doing even better this year. I'm actually hoping to catch a bunch of squid that are on the smaller side so I can use them whole. I might just have to play around w/ that website you linked and figure out the ultimate DIY boa rig.
fished in newport last night.. i got 25.. 3 guys combined had half a bucket.

still too early =(
i was there today with my 4yr. old. not for very long though. very cold, rainy, and windy. too cold for him, even though we gave it a quick 5 minute try. Soaked to the bone by the time we giot back to the truck. i'm going tomorrow. hopefully it will be a bit better
can anyone help me out with calculating how long my battery will last? i have some lights that use 16 amps, 200 watts. if i buy a 400 watt power supply with a 19 Ah rating... how long will the battery last for??
2 hrs max I think
If your power supply, or battery I'm assuming is 19Ah, that means it is rated to supply 1 amp for 19 hours or 19 amps for 1 hour- the exact formula is:

hours = x Ah / y amps or in your case 19AH/16A = 1.18 hours. But that's under the best of conditions so I would expect about an hour.

If you know the watts of your light and it is a 12V light, just divide wattage by 12 to get the amps.
man that sucks for night time fishing... and honda generators are way too expensive for me right now... ok this might be a stupid question, but does anyone know if the jamestown docks have "secret" electrical outlets for the public to use?
