Here's mine. came to Newport Friday & Saturday with my family. Went squidding myself while my wife enjoyed downtown shops. Started fishing Friday afternoon around 3pm. First cast was my lucky one, double-header at the wall. Then bite is gone. No squid for next 2 hours. Friday night checking out other people fishing the bridge and wall, slow and cold - a few here & there. Saturday morning went squidding with my son around 11am at the wall. A few quick bites. Got 4 myself and my son caught his first squid. Totally dead after. Went back Saturday night to check out, very slow at the wall - saw only a few in the buckets for the 2 groups with generator-powered lights.

For me, pink and green is the best color. Smaller jig (3"?) is better than the bigger yo-zuri (4.5"?).

Next week.
Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I usually squid fish in May, but want to try my luck early this year. I have a quick silly question. Where can one go for a bathroom break? I know they usually setup some bathroom booths when squid season is in full bloom.

thanks

I use green, pink, and blue jigs on my line and caught squid on all of them yesterday. Although I did catch more with the green and pink.

I was there from 7pm on Friday and left at 7am on Sunday. There were reports that there was a decent squid run at 3pm on Friday but I didn't believe it.

I only caught 2 from 7pm to around 3:30am Saturday morning. Starting fishing again at 8am and caught only a couple. But then from 3pm - 4pm there was a decent size squid run. It started on the bridge towards the Hyatt and then moved back and forth.

Managed to only catch about 20. Other people did alot better than I did.

Took a little break after that and fished again at 7pm -2am. This time I only caught 5.

I've always had better luck fishing during the day than at night.

I Got Zip also <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':clover:' /> . It seems they are mostly hitting at low tide which is at 6:30 today. The afternoon has been the best squid fishing time so far.

Thanks tatonka. Youre right, everyone seems pretty chill here. I like the atmosphere here already. Someone make some baseball caps to distinguish one another. I'd buy one. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':clover:' />

Well, went out this morn...got there around 8. Left around 3. Nada. Skunked. Didnt see one person lift any up either. I heard too that the low has been productive lately...Looks like someone was on fire in the early am or lastnight on the middle of the bridge...lots of evidence <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Next outing will probably be Sat.

Go get em, guys n gals <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Sue John Tuan
could the squid retreat for awhile because of the cold weather?
Hey Squidlovers, I know it was cold but didn't anybody go out last night?
I will be making my first excursion this weekend coming up, have a nasty flu kept me home last weekend but it should clear up in time.

While I was preparing my tackle, I was wondering about how you sharpies set up your rigs. How many jigs do you fish at a time and how far apart do you tie your dropper loops. I was trying to tie dropper loops and just can't seem to get a handle on it. It's fustrating!!!
There is a great website for all fishing knots including the dropper loop

Noah and I got back from VT. Didn't see any squid or bait fish in the West River. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':oops' /> Didn't catch any trout or salmon either. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':clover:' />

Sorry you guys didn't hit big this weekend but happy that we didin't miss the heavy run. CU this weekend.
have you guys ever tried selling squid? if so... how much have you charged? $50 a bucket??
I was only down on Friday...the fishing was very sporadic. There seemed to be an abundance of tiny squid about, but there were a couple strong runs late at night between 12 and 2AM. Hopefully things pick up soon.
