Squid in Greenport,LI NY usually comes around the same time as Newport RI..End of April-Early May.. From reading reports on Greenport LI,Ny squid last year.. I hope there will be much better season there this year for them.. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Just curious...what is generally an ideal water temp to get the bite going?
48-52 Degrees is ideal for the squid.

Great, thanks. My first attempt will likely be Friday night, April 25th. I'll report back after.
Please do!
Greenport Bay temperatures are at 49.5-50.0 Degrees today. This week of warm weather should really kick things off.

Wow, that's great news. Were there a lot of people there?
Hey everyone. I just learned about squid fishing this past October while striper fishing. A very friendly couple was fishing for squid & taught me all about it. My buddies & I have been "hooked" ever since.

They told me Greenport was the place to be in the Spring so I have been anxiously counting down the months for this time to come.

I have enjoyed reading all the posts in this fishing forum and the information here has been very useful.

I have made several trips already along the North Shore as well as Greenport and this is what I have noticed:

04/13 (9pm-11pm) @ Greenport - NOTHING!

04/20 (9pm-12am) @ Mount Sinani/Cedar Beach - NOTHING!

04/21 (10pm-12am) @ Stony Brook - 1st report of squid!!! I saw 2 squids swimming right on the surface around my lantern. Only problem? THEY'RE NOT BITTING MY JIGS, so maybe they're not hungry yet? I don't know!

I can't go tonight but I am definately trying again tomorrow and will be staying at friends of family out in Greenport this weekend. I will keep you all posted.

P.S. - Jerry & Lisa ... Where are you guys?! I hope to find you in this forum!
Where did you see squid at Stony Brook? The marina?
Yes. It might have been random but they didn't hit the jigs and then they were gone within 5-10 minutes of the first time I sighted them. They must be swimming through here and concentrating elsewhere? If anyone knows anything about this area please let me know.
