I have noticed that some of us seem to stick with the same size jig no matter where we fish. But that in some places there are very large or small jigs used by the 'Locals'.

Why is this ? Sometimes it must be due to the squid size ,but in others it seems more about the general type of location.I'm not asking anyone to give up their 'secrets',just to indicate the areas they find most productive for squidding.
I tend to stick to 3.5s but in early Autumn when the new squid are about I go down to 2.5s and in Spring when targeting deep squid I use 3.75s. Friends also use 4s but my rod is too light. I stick with 3.5s because I'm familier with their action and they are a versitile size. A freind caught a 60 gram aori on one the other day and I caught a kilo with the same size. I just change the weights depending on the depth of the water

I usually fish near rocks but sometimes from the breakwaters around the fishing ports here.
