With the debate about jig color going on (i dont think it matters that much) one thing to think about is habitat for squid.

Puting the best colored jig in an area that does not hold suitable habitat will not result in much of a catch.....

My experience tells me to fish from a kayak and find shallow broken reef!

I just walk along a rock groin and sight fish for them , just out a bit are weed beds and the squid come in off them when there is enough water for them.

there are rocks and weed patches between the groin and weed beds and that suits them fine untill I get there...lol

I only need about 1 and1/2 hours of making tide and the squid start turning up in small numbers but some times there are scoals of 20 or more and it's game on.

red and orange jigs work the best for me in the shrimp hunter style and I just change the weight pattern so they sink ever so slowly and evenly , almost neutral sinking is best..that is the jig will hardly sink , if your jigs don't do this your chances are slim as these squid are really fussy and hard to catch but once you work them out the numbers flow.
