I am going seppie fishing in Viareggio Italy next month. Has anyone ever fished by hand line for cuttlefish? I will be fishing with an older experienced fisherman.
Hi Matthew! Welcome to the forum. Hope someone can help you out. I personally have never caught a cuttle so far <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Hi mathew!
Here in Croatia 99% fishermans fishing for cuttlefish and squids with handline.
Italians are our neighbours so we use similar techniques.
My english is not so good so i will draw lines. Lines for squids and cuttlefish are different and jigs are different too.
Here is line for cuttlefish:
Use oita type jigs only!
Like this one:
Best colors are red, green, red head with gray body but there is no straight rules, you have to try few different colurs.
Advice - do not pull line so hard like for squids. Let jig lay down on the bottom and 'sleep' about 10 seconds and then pull it.
It will be great if you have boat there, then put the light under the water.
Here is some catches with handline like this:
