I was checked once this year for my saltwater license in the morning.  I've never seen them at night though.

I believe RI is the only state that requires a license for squid.

That's because squid aren't fish. However, I'm sure someone in the State realized that there are dozens, if not hundreds of people who go squidding but never go fishing. They were giving up license money and, more importantly, fine money. Now, as for fine money, the quarterly report for citations is usually small and almost always undersize/overlimit citations, so I'm sure they would probably just warn you and make you stop fishing.

Water is warming, ever so slowly.

Water temperature in Hyannis been dropping steadily since last Saturday. It's was 50.5 on April 30th and Now 46.4

We caught less squid since Saturday.

Let hope it's going back up soon.

Anybody catching anything?? I'm ready for this year. (I bought a bunch of bullet heads weighted and non weighted)😜
I think the squid season is over, the scup, black seabass and sea robin moved in so squid are scatter.
A friend went out in Newport on Friday and caught 16 squid in a few hours. Now that it looks like we have a nice week ahead, It should be good for another week or two and then there should be a huge push of squid at the end of the month. The only question is when the blues will arrive in number. Nothing scatters squid quite like a bluefish.

I went to goats town RI got about 20 squids. Will try tonight again.
Anyone been out last weekend?  Looking to go this Friday.  How's the parking police?

Last night may 9th. 3 hrs. About 20!!! Cold cold cold!!!
Last night was cold. I got 1 in 2 hrs. Nobody near me caught anything. Though it would be good on the up tide. Maybe the waters still cold from last weeks rain. Should heat up soon.

Had to go to downtown Newport this morning. Drove by GI causeway. There were quite a few squid jiggers there. Half of them looked like they were still hanging around since last night. All of them looked bored and, clearly, no one caught anything in the daylight. Bizarre seeing every spot full except for 1 in the parking area on a weekday morning with no one catching anything.

Fished from 0530 til 1200 not a single one was pulled up by anyone. (Bridge in Newport)
They killed them in Edagartown today. Dock bound jiggers got big squid in AM daylight and tonight. A boat had 400 lbs this morning also.

Searching for a charter, any recommendations? Cannot wait any longer
Squids have arrived in Newport.  Go get them boys.  You can also ask SquidBruce.

Frances fleet pt Judith has squid trip Friday night 7pm

Went to the GI Bridge and fished from 10 pm to 1 am last night. Got 11 squids. Not a great night. Not too cold though. Squids were very sporadic and focused in feeding the bait fish on top water instead of hitting jigs of all colors and sizes. Though red/pink seemed to work better with single lightly weighted jig.

Side note, a certain ethnic group of people doesn't seem to respect the public place and leave all kind of garbage both on bridge and by the parking places. Challenged them a couple of times but effort went in vain. Not meant to pick on this particular group but that has been my observation from going the GI bridge for a couple of decades!

I fish the Long Island side and I am probably of the same ethnic group you speak of. I know what you are talking about, though. Although, it does seem these days it's clean over here. I remember going down there once a long time ago in the morning, though, and it was a mess.
